New Year’s Traditions to Start with The Family

More than ever, we have realized that it is important to create memories with the family. With the new year coming up, why not set your sights on some New Year’s traditions to start with the family.

The purpose of creating traditions is to create memorable experiences that everyone will remember and continue year after year. Traditions bring the family together and what better time to start them than by ringing in the new year.

If you are looking for some fun and memorable New Year’s traditions to start with the family this year, both you and the kids will enjoy these ideas.

New Year’s Traditions

Play a Board Game

Whether you want to do this on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, why not get some board games out and play them with the kids. It doesn’t matter what board game is played so you can just pick something out of the closet that everyone will enjoy.

You can also make it a tradition to get a new board game specifically for the New Year or bust out one of the new games that your child received for Christmas.

Have a 12 Grape Eating Celebration

In Spain, it is traditional for many families to eat 12 grapes before the clock strikes 12:01. Each grape symbolized a month for the upcoming year and is thought to bring you good luck.

Grab some grapes from the store so that the whole family can take part in eating 12 grapes together once the clock strikes midnight. According to the tradition, you have exactly 1 minute to finish all 12 grapes. This can be a fun New Year’s tradition to start with the family and enjoying a healthy snack first thing is a great way to start the new year. Plus, it doesn’t hurt to bring in some good luck.

Have a Movie Marathon

This is a tradition that can be done on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day. Having a movie marathon on New Year’s Eve is a great way to pass the time until the clock strikes midnight.

If you choose to do the movie marathon on New Year’s Day, it will be a great way for everyone to relax in their pajamas and snack throughout the day.

Make a Family Time Capsule

A fun family tradition that you can start is making a time capsule. Each year, everyone can put in something small that was special to them that year. You can either bury the time capsule somewhere or store it away and once the kids are grown, you can open them.

You don’t need to make a large time capsule; you can simply use a mason jar to save some space. The kids will love looking back when they have opened the capsules and remembering the various items.

If you do want to create a large time capsule, you can always start one big-time capsule, and each person can put something into it every year. Once everyone has grown, open it up to see what is inside.

Enjoy a Cup of Hot Chocolate with Breakfast

It is usually pretty cold on New Year’s since we are in the winter months, having some tasty hot chocolate can warm you up. You can make your own hot chocolate mix and experiment with flavors or purchase your favorite premade mix at the store. Just don’t forget the marshmallows!

Create a Bucket List

This is a fun family activity that everyone can take part in. On New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day, everyone can come together to create a list of things they hope to do or accomplish in the new year. Once the year is over, you can look back at your list and see what items you can check off your list and create a new one for the upcoming year.

Volunteer To Cleanup

New Year’s Eve is probably one of the biggest party days of the year and it is no secret that people don’t pick up their trash. They leave their trash all over the place so what better way to spend your New Year’s Day than by making the world beautiful again. Grab some trash bags and get to work volunteering to clean up the neighborhood or contact your local businesses and city departments to see if you can help clean up after New Year’s Eve events and parties that have taken place.

This is a great way to help teach children about the importance of helping clean up after ourselves and how they can help take care of the world we live in.

New Year’s Traditions

As you ring in the new year and say goodbye to the previous year, these traditions will help you make more memories and create some fun experiences for everyone.

These are just a few ideas, there are so many others that you can customize and create to fit your family so that everyone is happy and memories are made.
