3 Ways I Decompress Between Travels

Travel has recently become my life. When I decided to fulfill my lifelong wish to travel to as many countries as possible in one year, I had no idea that it would have taken over my life. But I wouldn’t change a single thing! However, I do want to thank Keurig® and their new K-Duo Essentials™ Single Serve & Carafe Coffee Maker for coming to my rescue.

I received this product for free from Moms Meet (momsmeet.com) to use and post my honest opinions. Compensation for this post was provided and this page may contain affiliate links.

My son recently asked me after a phone call from somewhere in Europe to see how they were doing, “When will you returning to the USA and to our Air BNB?”. The reason? I had been gone for an entire month, and not only were they were missing me, but for most of 2019, I was never really at home. I would return from one trip only to leave less than two weeks later for another, sometimes in a much shorter timespan.

It wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy being at home. I love my family, don’t get me wrong, but I relish exploring the world just as much. However, after returning from long haul flights, some flights as long as 17hrs, I’m usually exhausted and wish I could lay in bed and sleep for the next 72hrs. Unfortunately, being a mom means that’s not going to happen. It means that I have to get up and go-go-go. After all, the kids still need to get to school, taken to after-school activities, help with homework and get dinner on the table, and work on this website preparing content to keep everyone up to date on my travels with tips.

How do I get it all done, and still have a bit of time for myself? Here are the three ways I decompress between travels.

1. I MEDITATE

The first thing I do when I get up before my second tip is to meditate. Believe it or not, it has helped me tremendously. Mediation was first introduced to me by my therapist after a bout of depression. As many of you know, I suffer from depression and anxiety, something that’s been a part of my life for quite some time and military induced, but I’ve gotten a handle on it (sometimes). Meditation doesn’t have to be a long-drawn-out session of you on your knees in a yoga style position; it can be as simple as turning on some spa music, letting your body relax while clearing your mind of all thoughts. Sometimes an empty head can do a world of wonders.

2. I ENJOY A NICE CUP OF COFFEE OR THREE UPON WAKING

Once I get out of bed, the next thing I need is a cup of coffee or two or three. Having a household of kids means that someone is almost always yelling about not being able to find something, or they’re running late and need help with something that should have been taken care of the day before. If you’re a mother (or father), you can relate. Before I lose my sanity, I need a cup of coffee to deal with the manic situation in my household before I meltdown.

That’s why I’m loving the new Keurig® K-Duo Essentials™ Single Serve & Carafe Coffee Maker. I’ve always enjoyed my Keurig® maker, but the one thing I truly missed was the option to use ground coffee and make an entire pot. Now I’m able to do so. The new Keurig® K-Duo Essentials™ Single Serve & Carafe Coffee Maker can still make an excellent single-serve K-Cup® pod cup of coffee in an 8, 10, or 12oz size. However, it can also make an entire 8, 10, or 12-cup carafe as well. What this means for me is that I don’t have to keep going back to make single cups all the time, thus reducing my time in the kitchen, and more time to focus on where my next trip is going to take me.

There’s also a Pause & Pour feature which allows the Keurig® K-Duo Essentials™ Coffee Maker to be paused mid-brew for 20 seconds, so I can pour fresh, hot coffee right away if I’m in a hurry. The 12-cup glass carafe sits on a heating plate that keeps my coffee warm, so I simply refill as needed. And the 60 oz reservoir is more than enough to keep me caffeinated throughout the day, and everything is done simply at the push of a button. It couldn’t get any easier than that!

3. I TAKE NAPS THROUGHOUT THE DAY

Take a nap; it does a body good. In the army, there was a thing that we called power naps. We would be on these crazy shifts and would take 20-minute naps throughout the day. After 20 minutes, we would wake up feeling more refreshed than when we would actually go to sleep. Taking naps throughout helps my body feels energized and keeps my brain going. It’s been said that taking naps throughout the day also helps with creativity. I’ve noticed that after taking a nap, I can usually think clearer, which means a less cranky mommy, and a much more fun one.

And with my Keurig® K-Duo Essentials™ Single Serve & Carafe Coffee Maker keeping my carafe of coffee warm, it’s there right when I need it after waking up.
