SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA
When you think of lake towns, Tahoe is definitely one of the first ones that come to mind! It’s a large lake that borders both Nevada(LINK Cadence) and California, and both sides have different things to offer. It has gorgeous beaches, nearby ski resorts, and a lively downtown scene. You can take a helicopter tour, or rent a kayak and head out to enjoy life on the water.
There are so many things that draw us to Branson. Not only is it a lake town, but it’s also a spot for anyone interested in theatre. Everyone in your group will find something in Branson to enjoy. Branson is also home to the titanic museum, complete with an exact replica of the ship.
LAKE GEORGE, NY
This lake town is tucked away among New York’s Adirondack mountains, and is considered to be one of the most beautiful lake towns in the US. Hit up the Adirondack winery for a tasting, take a sightseeing cruise, or go hiking to Shelving Rock Falls.
TRAVERSE CITY, MI
If you’re looking for a bit of city and nature at the same time, Traverse City is the lake town for you. Take a tubing tour down Platte River, or enjoy an evening at one of the many local wineries and breweries.
GRAND LAKE, CO
Colorado has so much to offer up, but is often overlooked when it isn’t skiing season. Grand Lake backs up the town’s main street, and also happens to be the deepest and largest natural lake in the state of Colorado. Spend your day fishing, boating, or strolling along the Boardwalk.
Ithaca lies within the Finger Lakes region of New York. It is home to the gorgeous Cayuga Lake. Take a self-guided foodie tour through the town, or spend the day under a waterfall(yes, under) at Robert Treman State Park. Or, spend the day fishing for your dinner of either salmon, lake trout, or rainbow trout.
COEUR D’ALENE, ID
If you’re seeking adventure, then this is the Lake Town for you. It’s best known for its abundance of water sports. Rafting trips, kayaking, fishing, and more will draw you in to Coeur D’Alene, but don’t miss out on the ziplining or nightlife.
Saugatuck is a lake town on the shore of Lake Michigan, and is a true hidden gem. People come for the crystal clear waters of Oval Beach, but you’ll want to stay to enjoy a ride through the sand dunes.
Sandpoint is a lake town on the shores of the scenic Lake Pend Orielle. One of the things that makes Sandpoint such a great vacation spot, is that it is also surrounded by stunning mountains. So, if you don’t make it to Idaho this summer, you can still plan a trip to the gorgeous area for later in the year, to enjoy skiing and all that the town has to offer during the winter months. During the autumn months, the foliage is stunning and deserving of a scenic drive.
