Need a few reasons to visit Bucharest, Romania, with kids? I’ve got you covered.
Last year, with Madison on a mid-term break, I decided to not just pay Athens, Greece, a visit but also Bucharest, Romania. I’m going to be honest and say that Romania was never on my radar before, but after our amazing three days there, I have now sung its praises to everyone. Bucharest, Romania, is hands-down one of the most beautiful European cities, full of culture and fun that your entire family can enjoy.
So how did I end up in Bucharest? Just as I do with most of my trips, I travel where the budget is right and not where I really want to go. I originally wanted to spend an entire week in Greece, but after planning our trip, I realized that I didn’t really need an entire week in Athens. A quick Google Flights search showed that it would cost me about $100 to fly from Athens to Bucharest with Madison, so I added a 3-day trip there. However, since we weren’t flying out of Bucharest until late at night, we still had almost an entire day, so it turned into a 3-and-a-half-day trip.
Since we were flying in late October, the weather was much different from what we left in Greece. Gone was the 70° weather where we could wear shorts, and here was the 50°–60° weather that had us running to the nearest mall to pick up light jackets. But that didn’t stop us from exploring the lovely city, which included a walking tour.
Here are a few reasons why you should visit Bucharest, Romania, and do so with kids.
The public transportation system is efficient and easy to use
Bucharest is a great destination for families and offers the convenience of an efficient public transportation system. Madison and I dropped our bags off at the hotel and immediately took advantage of the train, which is surprisingly not only efficient but affordable as well. We were able to get around with just the use of Google Maps, but since most people spoke English, it was very easy to get around.
With numerous attractions available for children, Bucharest provides a unique twist to the traditional city break. From fantastic museums to historical parks, there is something on offer for everyone when exploring Bucharest’s varied neighborhoods. As parents may want to take advantage of all that is available, using the dependable public transport system makes it possible to travel stress-free with children in tow. Visitors to Bucharest will not be disappointed in the ease of utilizing this convenient and seamless mode of transportation!
Bucharest is a city with a rich history that your kids will love learning about
Any visit to Bucharest should include a thorough exploration of its history and culture. From the stunning architecture of the historic churches and palaces, to the bustling streets crowded with people, Bucharest’s intricate heritage is worth exploring. Kids looking to get a better understanding of the city can find what they need at museums or on walking tours. Madison and I did a free walking tour where we learned more about Bucharest than we ever would simply by walking around the city on our own.
With knowledgeable guides providing insights into Romania’s vibrant history, there are plenty of opportunities for children to give themselves a crash course in Bucharest’s past. Historical monuments and artifacts serve as great educational tools for young minds, allowing them to gain a more nuanced appreciation for the city beyond what meets their eyes. At the end of their explorations, kids will be able to walk away feeling enlightened and enriched with everything they have learned about this multifaceted destination.
