We recently had the pleasure to review FunBites. What are FunBites you ask? Well it’s a little contraption that cuts your food into tiny little fun bite sizes making it fun for us little ones to eat. We were offered the option of choosing the triangle, hearts or square and you know which one I chose. I chose the heart, after all I’m a girl and girls love hearts. Now on to my review.
I’m not a big eater but when I do eat I love to eat healthy but big pieces are not my friend. Mommy usually cut my sandwiches up in pieces with a bread knife or with a cookie cutter. When we heard about FunBites we thought, hey this would be perfect for me. Now not only would my pieces be small enough for me to eat but it would also be in a fun shape as well.
The instructions that came with our FunBites were simple enough:
Step 1: Place FunBites cutter on top of food. Remove popper top and place to the side (as shown in picture above)
Step 2: Grab handles on both sides of the cutter. Press down and firmly rock back and forth 5-6 times to cut all the way through the food. Press hard; FunBites can take it!
Step 3: Insert popper top. Lift cutter up from food and push down popper to pop out fun-shaped bite-sized pieces.
Did it just as described in directions! |
Well first mommy decided to try it out on a sandwich. I love whole wheat bread and cheese and mommy decided to add a slice of beef bologna in there as well for me. We followed the instruction and voila!
Lot of wasted bread around the edges. |
Unfortunately it did not turn out the way it was supposed to. Maybe whole wheat bread that is thicker than regular white bread combined with cheese and bologna was too much so we did not have a good experience. Even if we did there would have been so much wasted bread. I actually ended up not eating my sandwich because mommy didn’t do a good job of cutting it.
Up next we decided to try it on a cantaloupe.
Cantaloupe being cut with FunBites |
This turned out much better than the sandwich did. The following picture may not show a true picture of how good it turned out but we learned a trick when doing it with a cantaloupe. Make sure that you do not cut it to thick or you would have a hard time getting it out. Mommy didn’t think of getting a second picture when next we used it but it turned out pretty well. This picture is an example of how not to do it the way mommy did. I know my readers won’t make the same mistake mommy did.
Note to mommy: Next time cut cantaloupe thinner |
Since we had success with our cantaloupe we decided to try it next on my favorite summer time fruit. A watermelon. Yay for watermelon!
Juicy watermelon, my favorite |
Mommy learned her lesson from our cantaloupe experiment so this time of course mommy decided to cut our watermelon slice a lot thinner and we had success! Amazing success I might add.
This one was perfect! |
We once again weren’t too happy with how much wasted fruit there was but I did love that it did do what it was supposed to do which was to cut my fruit into tiny geometric bite sized shapes. I enjoyed my tiny shapes and so did mommy. I actually ended up eating the parts that weren’t cut into shapes. I love watermelons so that was not going to go to waste.
I did eat the parts that weren’t in shapes. I can’t waste watermelons. |
I recommend FunBites definitely for fruits and maybe even certain veggies but my hearts didn’t do a great job on my sandwich and I didn’t like all that wasted food. I think that I may have just chosen the wrong cutter. The squares and the triangle might have worked out much better. FunBites can be used on almost any any food, even pancakes and omelettes. We tried it on pancakes and it was amazing!
Here is a video showing you exactly how FunBites works taken from their Youtube page. Notice that they’re using the squares which is what I think works best.
FunBites are made right here in the USA. They’re also dishwasher safe although hand washing is preferred and are BPA Free.
You can connect with FunBites on their Website where you can place an order for your own FunBites, their Youtube, Facebook and Twitter page.
