5 Reasons To Visit Oahu ~ #GoHawaiii

When it comes to planning a trip to Hawaii, it can be tough to decide which island to visit. And let’s be honest – can you really go wrong with any of them? Spending a few days on a tropical beach isn’t a bad way to spend a vacation, but if you’ve got to pick, you might as well do some research and choose the island best suited for you.

That’s what I did when I started to plan my trip to Hawaii, and through my research, I found a few compelling reasons that convinced me Oahu was the place to be. Not sure why you should choose Oahu for your Hawaiian vacation destination? Here are just a few of my favorite reasons to visit Oahu:

IT’S ONE OF THE MORE AFFORDABLE ISLANDS

While most Hawaiian vacationers understand they aren’t enjoying a budget-friendly vacation, you can save a bit on your trip by staying in Oahu over some of the other islands. Arguably the most tourist-friendly, Oahu is home to more hotels and restaurants vying for business, and that competition keeps prices lower than they are elsewhere. Additionally, the fact that many international flights land here means you won’t have to splurge on another plane ride to your final destination.

IT’S HOME TO SOME SIGNIFICANT HAWAIIAN HISTORY

History buffs won’t need too much convincing to visit Oahu. It’s home to the former state residence of the royalty that once ruled the island. Situated in downtown Honolulu, you can sign up for guided or self-led audio tours of the Iolani Palace. Additionally, fans of World War II history will immediately recognize Oahu as the location of the Pearl Harbor attacks.

IT’S THE PERFECT PLACE TO EXPERIENCE HAWAIIAN CULTURE

Hawaii has a culture all its own, and Oahu is a wonderful place to get a taste of it while you’re on vacation. Immerse yourself in the heritage of the island through the Polynesian Cultural Center, which offers a taste of the traditional Hawaiian lifestyle. Or, if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly way to experience Hawaiian culture, check out the Royal Hawaiian Center, which offers tourists and locals alike hands-on lessons in Hawaiian traditions like lei making and hula dancing.

YOU’LL FIND ALL KINDS OF OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES HERE

Outdoor lovers will rejoice when they find out about all the different ways you can have fun outside in Oahu. From incredible hikes through the rainforest to admire waterfalls or mountain views to kayaking tours that’ll take you along the island’s scenic shoreline, you can find plenty of ways to explore outdoors here. Rent bicycles, paddleboards, or canoes, or sign up for a horseback ride or ATV tour for a little excitement.

THERE ARE TONS TO SEE AND DO

While Oahu is only the third-largest of the Hawaiian islands, you’ll find no shortage of attractions to experience while you’re there. Between the natural wonders and landmarks, museums and cultural attractions, and well-loved spots like Waikiki Beach, you can find endless ways to spend your days – and nights – on the island.

It’s easy to see why Oahu is a great place to visit for all types of travelers, from families to solo adventurers. Between its rich history and culture, more affordable nature, and things to see and do, you’ll be hard-pressed to have a bad time while you’re here.
