Self-Care Tips To Survive The Holiday Season


As much as I love the holiday season, I’ll be the first to admit things can get a little stressful. On top of my regular to-do list, I’ve got to decorate the house, put up the tree, find time to shop for presents, prepare dinners and host parties, and that’s just the beginning! I know I’m not alone when I say it’s easy to feel the stress start to creep on as the holidays grow nearer. Fortunately, I’ve found some ways to keep my anxiety at bay, thanks to a little self-care.

When life gets crazy, it can be more important than ever to find time for your mental and physical health. Make self-care a priority, and you’ll see your stress is easier to manage and your mental state is in a much better place to make it through the busy weeks ahead. Not sure what steps you can take to show yourself a little love? Here are some self-care tips to help you survive the holiday season:



DON'T BE AFRAID TO SAY NO.
There are lots of parties, potlucks, festivals, and other events to attend throughout the holiday season, and odds are, you’ll be invited to a fair number of them. While many people feel obligated to accept invitations and show up to events, you shouldn’t feel pressured to attend everything. Instead, say no when you need to preserve a little time in the day for yourself.

INDULGE IN YOUR FAVORITE HOLIDAY DRINK.
It may sound silly, but there’s nothing that gets me more into the holiday spirit than sipping on a peppermint mocha or mug of hot cider. When I’m feeling stressed out as I’m running from one store to the next, trying to get through my to-do list, I’ll stop once in a while to treat myself to a drink that’ll help me feel a little more festive. For a few bucks, it’s a small price to pay for the happiness it brings.



MAKE TIME FOR EXERCISE.
When your schedule starts to fill up fast, don’t forget to prioritize exercise. Whether you prefer yoga classes, lifting weights, running on the treadmill or some other form of exercise, it’s important to stay active as winter approaches, and we find ourselves consuming more than usual.

STEER CLEAR OF SOCIAL MEDIA.
Around the holidays, people tend to overshare on social media as they post photos of their perfectly-decorated homes, selfies before swanky holiday parties, and gifts they’ve given or received. If you want to keep your focus on yourself and your loved ones, stay away from Instagram, Facebook, and other forms of social media until the holiday season is through. There are plenty of great ways you can put that spare time to use.



As things pick up around the holiday season, make time to slow down and take care of yourself. By embracing little ways like these to take a break from the stresses of your days and invest in your mental health, you’ll find yourself better equipped to enjoy all the fun and excitement the Christmas season brings.
