We just love to travel and every summer we dedicate a road trip to a state of our choice. A state that we can explore and do fun things together as a family. It's something that we have done for the past few years and one that has now become a tradition. However, it has not always been that way for me. At one point I couldn't travel 5 miles before motion sickness kicked in and I begged to be let out of the car. It was no fun for me and most certainly no fun for the kids either, and I knew that I just had to do something about it. Apparently my motion sickness doesn't just stop at me, my youngest son Mikael and my daughter Madison also experience it, but that's another story. Today I want to share how I am able to now experience my trips with my family thanks to Dramamine®.

There is nothing quite like the open highway, watching the scenery go by and taking in the views. I always have my camera on hand and if I'm not in the driver's seat, you can find me taking photos as we go by. That however can come to a halt really quickly when motion sickness kicks in. A two hour trip can quickly turn into 4 because someone has to get out of the car, get outside for fresh air and sometimes even make a run to the bathroom.

I remember the first time I had motion sickness. I was actually in the Caribbean on a boat traveling to another island that was about an hour away. The sea was as calm as could be but the rocking motion was just not for me. I remember thinking that lying down would have helped so I went to a cabin to lie down. Big mistake, I ended up feeling even worse than before. I had heard of sea sickness, but had never experienced it before, and thought that I would have been ok. After all it was only an hour away and there were no waves. Can you believe that it's been over 30 years and I still have yet to step foot on another boat. We are however, planning a family cruise but I am not dreading it one bit. However, since that day, I could no longer travel for long periods of time without feeling some sort of nausea.

In the Caribbean, there are home remedies for everything. If you get a cold "there's a herb for that", if you get a fever "there's a herb for that too". Well for motion sickness, the magical cure was ginger and my mother would boil ginger and we would drink it, and surprisingly it worked. When I migrated to the US, finding fresh ginger wasn't always possible so we did the next best thing. We experimented with over the counter medicine that only seemed to work but never really did. I stocked up on ginger ale and I would always have a piece of candy or gum in my bag for whenever I was taking a trip.

Now I'm all for products containing natural ingredients. Products that don't make me drowsy. After all, I'm usually the one driving and no-one wants a drowsy driver behind the wheel. That's one of the reasons why I take Dramamine® Non-Drowsy Naturals. It is the #1 pharmacist recommended brand for treating and preventing motion sickness, and it is also the first non-drowsy solution for motion sickness from Dramamine®, the leaders in motion sickness relief. It not only prevents and treats nausea and vomiting without the drowsy side effects, since it contains the clinically-tested ginger dosage required for preventing and treating motion sickness.

So if motion sickness is a problem and you don't want it to "rain on your parade", keep Dramamine® Non-Drowsy Naturals on hand. It will help keep your motion sickness at bay and you'll get to enjoy your journey as much as you will your destination!

Let's discuss: How do you keep your own feelings of nausea at bay?
I too experience some motion sickness. I can ride in a car no problem but if I look at my phone for any length of time I can start to feel the nausea. Yuck! Also if I am in a bus I need to be towards the front. It is too bouncy in the back for me. The nausea starts to set in there too. Thanks for the Dramamine tip. I should keep some with me just in case!
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, playing certain video games with my kids does that for me too. You should certainly give Dramamine a try.
DeleteI have never dealt with motion sickness. But, I took Dramamine during my pregnancies for morning sickness. It really helped!
ReplyDeleteIt may be the ginger that helped since ginger has been known to help with nausea. When I was pregnant, I was giving ginger candy to help with that.
DeleteI rarely have any movement related nausea issues. I can do just fine on a boat or a plane. BUT if I try to read in the car, it's all over.
ReplyDeleteOh sorry to hear that. I can do fine on a plane, it's boats and cars that gets me.
DeleteI like dramamine! It really helps with motion sickness and airplane trips. Helps my husband too!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it the best? I don't really use anything else either.
DeleteI have motion sickness when I cruise. And spin - blah- the older I get the worse it gets
ReplyDeleteThen Dramamine will certainly help you. I was out today and felt nauseous in my car because of a scent that I didn't like. I came home took Dramamine and now I feel so much better.
DeleteI have the worst motion sickness, only time I don't get sick is when I am driving myself so I totally need to check this out! x
ReplyDeleteYou should most certainly check it out.
DeleteTraveling is always fun, looks like you found some good sights. I'm not sure how to keep nausea at bay so I'm happy to read that this product works for just that because I never want to feel nauseous.
ReplyDeleteTraveling is amazing and we do it once a year, where we take a road trip and visit another state. Without Dramamine, I don't think I'd be able to do that.
DeleteThis is exactly what my daughter needs. She gets car sick every time we take a trip. Poor thing!
ReplyDeleteThere is also a kid version which I will be sharing about. That would work for her depending on her age.
DeleteI used to always get carsick when I traveled. I have sworn by Dramamine brand for years and I need to try this natural version.
ReplyDeleteYes they've been around for years and I remember taking the regular one that would make me slightly sleepy. This one I love so much more.
DeleteThe only time I feel nausea is if I am a passenger in a car. It's simple to avoid by driving, which is easy since I absolutely love to drive.
ReplyDeleteYou're like me. I hate being the passenger but sometimes I feel it when driving as well.
DeleteI'm so thankful that I don't have to deal with motion sickness. I have friend who does though and I will have to tell him about this!
ReplyDeleteBe grateful Brandy and please share it with those who do suffer.
DeleteI'm lucky that I don't get motion sickness but others in my family do. This is a staple in my medicine drawer!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that you have it on hand to share with those who suffer unlike yourself.
DeleteI haven't dealt with motion sickness but my husband has! Definitely going to check this out and take it along with us on our next boat ride! Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome and I'm sure he'll thank you for that.
DeleteI LOVE the new Dramamine. I get highly car sick, so the naturals is my go-to medicine
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! Isn't it amazing?! I wish they had done this one years ago but I'm still happy to have it now.
DeleteI was worried about motion sickness last summer when we went on our cruise and we were all perfectly fine. Our cabin was at the front of the boat which I think helped a little. If I had been sick we would have used Dramamine too.
ReplyDeleteOh I'm certainly taking Dramamine on our cruise because I don't want to be surprised while sailing.
DeleteI'm also prone to motion sickness and was unaware of the non-drowsy version of good ol' Dramamine! Thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome Michelle and this one is fairly new so that may be why.
DeleteI'm fortunate to not suffer motion sickness but I have heard it is miserable for those who do. I will suggest this product to those folks
ReplyDeleteYou're certainly one of the fortunate ones, but for those us who do suffer, then Dramamine is our go to drug.
DeleteI never had to deal with much morning sickness thankfully. But my husband relies on Dramamine. He gets car sickness & all kinds of other motion sickness.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly I didn't have morning sickness that badly, my motion was certainly worst than my morning sickness when I was pregnant.
DeleteI will try that product. I am having motion sickness too especially during long trips.
ReplyDeleteAs long as you suffer from motion sickness, dramamine will help.
DeleteI never had motion sickness until I went on a long bus ride and sat in the back. After that, I knew I needed something! We have always used dramamine.
ReplyDeleteDramamine has worked for me for years and I don't use anything else.
DeleteMy teenager gets motion sickness real bad. Even on long cars he get queasy. I feel bad for him. I will have to try this out to see if it works better then the one we are using.
ReplyDeleteOh I think it will and so sorry to hear about your son. My youngest son is the same way as well and so is Madison but she just LOVES going on our trips, so I always make sure they are taken care of.
DeleteI am the absolute worst when it comes to motion sickness, cars and boats. Luckily i'm ok on planes, and this is always my go to!
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, I'm ok on planes, never had a problem. Mine is cars and ships. Yuck!
DeleteI didn't even know that there was a non-drowsy Dramamine! My husband has motion sickness a lot and he uses Dramamine, I'll have to let him know about the non-drowsy. He has also had a lot of success with Ginger :)
ReplyDeleteThe non-drowsy formula is rather new so now you have a new version for those of us who do drive.
DeleteI am not that into motion sickness, more on migraine. Good to know about this relief.
ReplyDeleteI also suffer from migraines, and it's no walk in the park. I hate it!!
DeleteI still seem to get a little drowsy when I take it. Maybe because it's chilling me out and I've worn myself out haha
ReplyDeleteThat may be true but the non-drowsy formula has never made me drowsy. The regular one does however.
DeleteI've always used sprigs of ginger or smelling lemon peels for morning sickness. I've never used an actual pill.
ReplyDeleteWhen I had morning sickness, I would use ginger mints and those worked great. I've never tried smelling lemon peels, that's new to me. Luckily there are no more pregnancies in my future. :)
DeleteThis sounds like a great solution. I used to use ginger when I'd get morning sickness during pregnancy.
ReplyDeleteGinger does solve nausea problems doesn't it?
DeleteI've never had motion sickness myself, but I have a couple of kids who sure did when they were little. No fun at all!! It's good to know that there is a dependable non-drowsy option.
ReplyDeleteIt truly is no fun. I remember the first time we went to the Caribbean and my son got into a car and threw up all over the back seat. Definitely no fun!
DeleteLuckily I never suffered from motion sickness. I am not a road trip person and always in the air but I heard this medicine helps so much! I always love medication that is non-drowsy!
ReplyDeleteIt truly does help and I don't know what I'd do without it.
DeleteI wish more people took it! Like the people on our scheduled glacier cruise in Alaska!
ReplyDeleteI carry it around, not because I get motion sick, but I had a boyfriend that did, and you just never know when you'll need it. Motion sickness is an awful feeling. That kind of nausea to me feels worse than any other kind of sickness or even nausea. I've only had it once or twice in my life - mostly from reading in a car - so I guess I'm lucky.
Oh I can't even begin to imagine how those people felt. It's what has been keeping me from booking a cruise, I just know that I'm going to feel sick and even with Dramamine I would prefer not to have to keep taking it.
DeleteA fellow Blogger introduced me to Dramamine and it saved my life on the 2nd day of blogger bash! I felt great even with the rocking so I can see they definitely work.
ReplyDeleteOh Dramamine is amazing! I don't know what I'd do without it.
DeleteI've never thought about trying dramamine, but after reading your post I think I should! I have the WORST motion sickness (two spins and I'm out lol).
ReplyDeleteOh then Dramamine would most certainly work for you. I just went to the amusement park and I had to use it before I got on the rides. :)
DeleteI have had this my whole life and Dramamine has saved me many a time! Also random, but lemonade and chips help. Something about the sweet and salty!
ReplyDeleteOh I've never tried that before. That's good to know and certainly something that I'll be trying because I love both lemonade and chips. :)
