Why Me-Time Matters and How to Get More

This post is sponsored by Sitter.Me and the Motherhood. All opinions are however my own.

Today is my birthday for those who don’t know and I hit the big 4-0. Here’s to the 40’s and I know it’s going to be amazing. As a mother of 4 I know what it is to be always on the go. Being a parent is a full time job. You literally work 24/7 and if your child needs something or there is a parenting tasks that needs done, you do it. While it can be a beautiful, rewarding job, it can also be a stressful one. The “never off” aspect of being a parent can take its toll on you over time. This is why it is so important to get that “me time”. On a day like today it is even more important because I live with the motto, you’ve got to treat yourself.

You give everything to your kids and that’s great but if you don’t take some time to refuel and recharge, you will burn out.

What is Me-Time and Why Is It Important?

“Me time” is the time you get just for yourself to focus on you, the person, the individual. You can stop being a mom or a partner for a while and just be you. What you do with this time is as unique as each person who takes it. You might spend time with a hobby you enjoy, watch TV or movies, read a favorite book, or just rest and relax. You might go to the gym or go for a run. It’s a little moment of solitude in your daily life that allows you to reconnect with who you are.

There are many benefits to getting the me-time you need and deserve. It can help you sleep better at night, reduces stress, allows you time to think and process situations, work through problems and much more. It gives you a “reset” from the daily life and obstacles that may come your way. It can help you to be a more positive person and also to recognize and appreciate the pleasure of your own company.

Me time can also help improve your focus, making you better at tasks once you do return to them. Investing in yourself through quality me time will help you to invest more into your children and your family life. Essentially, it helps you be a better YOU.

How Can You Get More Me-Time?

Okay, so that sounds good and all but how do you actually get this time for yourself? Well, if you’re waiting for the right time or the perfect moment, it’s never coming. You cannot wait for time; you must make the time. When you make me-time a priority, you will reap the rewards.

So here are some ways to get more me-time:

*Schedule some time each day where you can get alone for a little bit. Maybe it’s when the baby is napping, or when your partner comes home in the evening and takes over for a bit. During this time, don’t do chores or housework but instead, take some “me time”.

*Schedule a date at least once a month (once a week if you can spring it) to hire a babysitting service and just get out for a while. The way that I hire a babysitter is through the Sitter.Me app available in both the Google Play and Apple Store. It is very easy to use. Simply sign up, enter your details, including how many children you have, their age, what you want your babysitter to know and the distance you want your baby sitter be able to travel. In my case I wanted my babysitter to be CPR certified, love animals and also know first aid. I was lucky enough to find 2 awesome babysitter that lived within 15 miles of my house. Booking is super easy and everything is done within the app, including paying for my babysitter for my night out. Just take a look at the video below and see how easy it is.

*Stop feeling guilty about taking time for yourself. The bottom line is that many of us could be taking this time for ourselves already but we don’t because we feel guilty if we do. Let go of that guilt and recognize that this is important and necessary.
