I miss my days growing up in the Caribbean. My childhood memories of running around with family and friends until the sun set are ones that I miss dearly. Granted, I’m now an adult and can’t see myself running around much now, but it sure was fun. The ocean, the sun, and all the fresh fruits that were in abundance were my life.

My mother would get fruits directly from the trees and I would come home to freshly made fruit juices. There were no cans or artificial juices for us. My husband was surprised when I told him that the very first time I had powdered drinks was when I migrated to the US. Back in those days and you could find me climbing trees, especially our mango trees.

Just recently, I was reminiscing with my nephew, and I told him about the first time I climbed the mango tree that can still be found in our backyard. It was fun going up, but I couldn’t find my way down. My dad stayed below, laughing, while I tried climbing down, and he eventually guided me down. Since then, I’ve learned not only how to get up but also how to get down.

Mangoes have always been one of my favorite fruits, along with plums, pomegranates and a few other exotic fruits that can only be found in the Caribbean. I now buy my mangoes at my local supermarket and with the summer near, I’ve been eating them a lot more. I’ve also been imbibing in my teas and finally came up with a way to combine both. That’s how the Mango Tea was born. It’s a delicious thirst quencher and one that you’re going to want to serve all summer long.
