These are awesome tips! I am always looking to save some money whenever I can :)
ReplyDeleteOh me too! If I can make it, get it on sale/clearance or even free, that's me!
DeleteThese are some great ideas for decorating! My daughter moved into her own apartment with 3 other girls half way through collage. Believe it or not, one of the things she did was scavenge through our house to see if there was anything she wanted. lol Good reason for me to go out and find something new. =) Garage sales are something you could do, too.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is doing the same thing too. We had quite a few things that she could use, including brand new dishes etc, but we're also hitting up IKEA where the prices are GREAT!
DeleteGreat ideas! I have been shopping thrift all my life. There's no better way to redecorate on a budget. You can get some amazing stuff. I love your decorating it looks fantastic! Love the colors, makes me want to go home and start redecorating. :)
ReplyDeleteCan you believe that I don't personally thrift shop. I've seen the awesome things that people get thrift shopping and I need to get with the program.
DeleteSo many great tips, especially shopping thrift stores as sometimes you can totally find some interesting decor pieces to use there for sure.
ReplyDeleteI so agree. I've found really great decor pieces at my local Goodwill when I lived in NYC. I don't shop there anymore since it's too far away from me.
DeleteI definitely need to go to thrift store more often. There is even a decor consignment store near me that I could trade in the decor I no longer need and get something new to me!
ReplyDeleteOh that sounds like a great idea. I wonder if I have one like that near me.
DeleteGreat tips! Make your own wall art and use your collectibles are the two things that come to my mind!
ReplyDeleteMaking your own wall art sure is a great idea too. Thanks for that.
DeleteI can't imagine a kid in college. Sob!! That said, I do love your sense of style here, and of course, the budget stuff is wicked important to me.
ReplyDeletePhoto collages or cheap canvas prints are my personal favorite. In college, though? I think I plastered every bit of wall with posters!
hahaha that sounds about right when I was in college and late high school. I had posters everywhere. My oldest is a bit more sophisticated than I was. :)
DeleteI've been meaning to make a gallery wall! I love the thumbtack canvas DIY, too.
ReplyDeleteA thumbtack canvas sounds really nice. I'd love to see that.
DeleteI never thought to repurpose my mirrors! I have so many and making trays out of them to store all my knick knacks on is a cool idea!
ReplyDeleteYes I had a few that I did that too and placed them in the guest bathroom. You can surely repurpose your own and make it totally cool
DeleteI always have good luck finding things at Savers. I like to repurpose gently used things.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea. I don't think we have a Savers but I'll have to check.
DeleteGreat tips... I redecorated my home at a budget. Did stencil cut out and painted the walls in multicolor!
ReplyDeleteThat must look beautiful indeed. I'd love to see it.
DeleteWonderful tips! I love thrift shopping and second-hand shopping! It's amazing what people don't want anymore -- and how I can use it in my home and make it look fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these awesome ideas!
xoxo
That is so true. My mom would always say that one man's trash is another man's treasure. Now we know what she meant.
DeleteI love all these tips. I love going to antique stores for my decor, too. And a few big pieces I have are repurposed.
ReplyDeleteI just love antique stores. I have one that I just love to go and browse at the pieces that they have.
DeleteCollages definitely helped me fill my walls back in my first place. I found once I hung stuff on the walls it really began to feel like home.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I love paintings and when we moved into our new home last year, the first thing I did was get a few paintings and hung them.
DeleteI absolutely love the idea of using a mirror for a tray. That sounds like such a cute idea!
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of other ideas and you can always visit Pinterest for ideas.
DeleteSo many great tips. I love the idea of repurposing items, checking out thrift stores, or browsing the free Craigslist section. I always struggle with ways to make a rental feel more like something I styled.
ReplyDeleteEven if you're renting, unless you rented it fully furnished, you should be able to decorate it the way you like making it your own.
DeleteOh I remember those days after I graduated from college. Should i buy this and starve for a week?? Character building!
ReplyDeleteI don't anyone should ever buy anything and starve for a week. I know I won't!
DeleteThese are great tips.I love shopping in thrift stores and going to garage sales because I can haggle.Sometimes they even let you get stuff for free.
ReplyDeleteI've not done garage sales and I'm not a fan of haggling. If I don't like the price I just move on. :)
DeleteWe are furnishing a lakehouse.... I really need to hit up the local thrift stores to get the dishes. thats a great idea!!
ReplyDeleteIf it's not a home you're going to be residing in permanently, then the thrift store is a great idea.
DeleteGreat decorating tips. On a budget is great since I love to change things in the house often.
ReplyDeleteI'm very much the same way so on a budget is how I like to do things. It's also one of the reason I just love shopping at IKEA.
DeleteI love all of these tips! I have a few decorating projects on my list for summer. Can't wait to get started.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you're doing. I'm hoping you'll share and add a few tips as well.
DeleteFabulous tips! I'm definitely big on working with a budget for home decor, especially with three little boys that knock things down so easily. LOL!
ReplyDeleteOh I totally understand. I have 2 older kids but they're just as bad as my 4yr old. We can never have anything nice and expensive.
DeleteI like your DIY ideas and tips. You can even contribute to a home décor magazine. It's nice to often reuse, recycle and redecorate certain items to make them look new and good for the home.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right. There are so many things in our home that we can recycle but we just don't know it.
Deleteyes to photo collage feature wall! i'm totally planning to make one when i get my own home.
ReplyDeleteI can just imagine how awesome it will look. Do it!!
DeleteThis is awesome! I love these ideas! We have been in our house 10 years, but are still not really fully set up - it has been a long process of fixing things! I am going to implement some of these ideas though.
ReplyDeleteAnd you should definitely implement them. Some of the most beautiful homes have refurbished, recycled (antique) furniture in them. It's not how much money you spend, but how amazing it looks with what you have.
DeleteCreativity is key when you're decorating your home while following a strict budget. The materials doesn't have to expensive to look good, you just have to be creative in using them, and I love how you emphasized that here. Also, congratulations to your daughter, she is officially an adult with responsibilities!
ReplyDeleteI just mentioned that above without even seeing what you wrote. You just hit the nail on the head and said it more eloquently than I did. :)
DeleteI love IKeA and need dishes for our lakehouse. I also need to hit up some thrift stores.... great ideas!
ReplyDeleteYes it is and IKEA is usually my go to store whenever we go shopping because the prices are just right for my tiny budget.
DeleteI never knew you can get a ot of stuff for free on Craigslist, must look for those next time so I can redecorate my home!
ReplyDeleteThere are always people on Craigslist with things that they want to get rid of. Some of them might actually have something you can use.
DeleteI love shopping in other rooms in my house. Sometimes I find that switching it up works or get out a can of spray paint & re-do the color.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea as well. I have changed up the color of little things and it did make a world of difference.
DeleteDecorating can be so tricky. This is such a great life hack for budget decor! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jason, sometimes when you don't have a lot of money, you have to do what you have to do.
DeleteI love the idea of re-purposing mirrors. I have absolutely NO decorating sense so can use all the tips I can get!
ReplyDeleteOh mine isn't the greatest but we all have a bit of decorating sense, it might just not be interior decorator fashion, but we all have an idea of what we like and don't like.
DeletePhoto collages is definitely a fun way to decorate your room walls. I think fairy lights would be a great addition to this list as they completely change the environment of the room.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very good idea and now you just gave me an idea.
DeleteI love this write up! You really don't have to spend to much when it comes to decorating your home. You can work with whatever you already have lying around the house. Re-purpose, recycle and even build from scratch if you have the necessary materials needed for the project. You get to save money and have fun doing it too!
ReplyDeleteYes you sure can and I'm glad the article spoke to you.
Deletei love decorating my home and thanks to your diy tips and budget tips
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I was to help out at least a little. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteYou always feature a small girl in your blogs, so that I did not expect that you also have a college age daughter! With such a big gap between your kids, it must have been difficult to start all over. I bet the blog helped to cope with the stress. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat small girl is Madison, the owner of the blog. I also feature 2 boys as well every once in a while, but my oldest, also has her own blog and is in college.
DeleteAbility to turn ideas into actions makes it worthwhile. Photo collage trends is a blessing to this geneearion and fits perfectly in decorating a room.
ReplyDeleteYes photo collages sometimes tell a story and can make a room look really special.
DeleteI wish I had an eye for home decor. I think I'm more into shopping for home decor than actually decorating LOL I love thrift shopping because there's always good deals on home decor items. I got some really nice throw pillow for 1$ each and they were brand new. I also love the idea of using bowls to hold jewelry. I do that all the time. =)
ReplyDeleteI need to do some thrift shopping. I hear and see people with their great hauls and I'm missing out.
DeleteThese are great ideas for home decor. I should try. I love mirror, looks so classy.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of mirrors as well. You can surely do it!
DeleteThanks for these wonderful ideas and I might steal some of them to use in decorating my home.
ReplyDeleteOh go right ahead! I'm pretty sure others have been doing it way before me. :-)
DeleteReally cool ideas. It is not always possible to buy expensive things for home decor. We also must keep on looking for deals.
ReplyDeleteI am one of the biggest deal shopper there is. I love things that are on sale and clearance. Why go expensive when you can do a great job spending less money.
DeleteGreat ideas! My daughter and son are each young adults and they have done amazing jobs on setting up their own places. My daughter is currently making a headboard out of pallets and she has a beautiful coffee table made from a door.
ReplyDeleteOh those must look great. I can totally see that headboard but would love to see that coffee table!
DeleteYour tips are awesome! I love using accents from Family Dollar and the Dollar Tree!
ReplyDeleteOh I do the same thing too. My dollar store must know me by face because I'm always in there.
DeleteYou are very good. I learnt to decorate on a budget when I came to the USA for graduate school
ReplyDeleteThat must have been very exciting but you totally see that it can be done!
DeleteI love decorating! Problem is the time allocation.
ReplyDeleteYou just have to make the time. If you put some effort into it that is.
DeleteIndeed there's loads of way to redecorate your house. at different stage of your life, you will want to have your home in certain ways... so decorating it on a low budget will enable you to do it often!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. I've changed the way I see things, and besides the big things like couches etc, I tend to do low budget for everything else.
DeleteMirrors can also make the house brighter. It's also good to use small and thrift items to change the look of the household.
ReplyDeleteI don't particularly use a lot of thrift store items since I don't go thrift store shopping but it is a good idea, especially if you're low on funds.
DeleteI never thought about the free section of Craigslist! Such a great idea! I'll definitely make that a part of my hunting now! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome Haley, and you'd be surprised at the items you'll be able to find.
DeleteSo many great finds at thrift stores and Craigslist!
ReplyDeleteOh you can say that again. I've found some great finds at both!
