Valentine’s Day Cupcake Liners Flowers – Crafts for Kids

Nothing says Happy Valentine’s Day like a bouquet of flowers from your loved one. However, when you have kids, you don’t expect them to go out and buy you a bouquet of flowers, because they usually don’t have the money or they’re 4 years old like my daughter. However, there is an effortless and inexpensive way that you can get those flowers and one that you would appreciate since it was done with lots of love. All you need is some cupcake liners, and voila, you would have made some cupcake liner flowers.

Madison and I have been on a craft kick, and those of you I message with frequently on social media may have seen the photos of what we’ve been doing.  We do a TON of crafting, and I’m at Michaels almost every week just picking up more craft supplies. Michaels always has great deals, and when there’s a coupon, I’m there! Crafting is a great way to keep your little one occupied when the weather isn’t too great outdoors.

The past two weeks, we were buried under a lot of snow, and it was also cold for us here in Colorado. I know most people think of Colorado as a “ski country,” but unfortunately, or maybe I should say, fortunately, we don’t live in Aspen. While I’m accustomed to bitter cold temperatures, having lived in NYC for most of my life, the weather here in Colorado is relatively mild. This is Madison’s 4th winter, and she isn’t a fan and never has been.

Anyway, I’m once again getting off track, I tend to do that at times. With these cupcake liners flowers, they aren’t just only for Valentine’s Day, think of them for Mother’s Day as well, or maybe daddy might love to get some flowers for Father’s Day. I’m always in the kitchen making cupcakes, and so liners are one of the things that I have in abundance, however for this one, I actually bought some pretty patterned ones, but my favorites are, of course, my ones from IKEA. They make fantastic flowers, and they are slightly more durable as well.

Valentine’s Day Cupcake Liner Flowers

Supplies Needed:

Cupcake Liners

Pipe Cleaners and/or Lollipops

Alene’s Tacky Glue

1/8″ Circle Hand Punch

Decorative Ribbons

Now I don’t usually serve candy at my house but decided to use the lollipops to mix it up a little bit, and they are perfect for giving to the kids as a little Valentine’s Day treat.

Directions:

  1. I started by punching a hole in the middle of the cupcake liners. This is only done for the lollipops since doing it any other way would rip the liner. (This I learned through trial and error on my part.) You’re going to need about 4-5 cupcake liners for each bouquet, but you can use as many as you want. I personally think that 4-5 is perfect for this.
  1. Insert the lollipop from the top to begin your flower making. However, for the pipe cleaners, you’re going to make a slight bend and insert the pipe cleaner into the cupcake liner. Attach it with some tacky glue. It takes a short while for the glue to dry. In the meantime, you can continue doing this process to both your pipe cleaners and lollipops.
  1. Once your glue has dried, scrunch your cupcake liner and shape it into a cone. Do this with the rest of your liners, alternating the direction you fold your cone every time you do it. Fold your pipe cleaner in half and twist together to the top, leaving a section to make your leaf.
  1. To finish, I folded the end and twisted around the stem, shaping a leaf for the pipe cleaner flowers. For the lollipops, I added a piece of decorative ribbon to keep the flower petals together.

This is an easy way to create some flowers for Valentine’s Day and a great way to give a flower and candy as well. Madison enjoyed making them, and although I did most of the work, she enjoyed “smelling” her flowers when it was all over and done with.

Now that you’ve created flowers, just think of all your can make with your cupcake liners besides cupcakes.
