Tips for Keeping Your Preschooler Occupied This Summer

Summer is finally here and with it comes lots and lots of sunshine! I love summer, but I also need to keep my preschooler occupied during these upcoming months. There’s a lot going on around here, but I still want my preschooler to have fun and remember the summer months. While we have a trip planned for both Disney World and Universal, I want to do a few things that don’t include big trips and cost a lot of money. There is so much you can do and pre-schoolers are easy to please and to keep busy. Here are some fun and easy tips for keeping your preschooler occupied this summer.

Sandbox

Yes, sand might be a little messy, but it’s the perfect way to keep your child occupied this summer. You can usually put together a sandbox pretty cheap and then stock up on toys from the Dollar Store! It’s amazing how many hours of endless fun your child can have with something as simple as a sandbox. It’s also a great way to keep them outdoors and away from the TV. If you’re looking for a great sandbox for your backyard, check out our review of the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe Sandbox which we just absolutely love.

Play Dough

Some parents have a love/hate relationship with play dough, but I love it! My child can sit there for hours and play with it, which makes it the ultimate way to keep her occupied in the summer months. Nowadays there are so many gadgets you can use to make play dough even more fun. It’s also really cheap, so you don’t have to worry about blowing through your budget. You can also find a few recipes online or on Pinterest where you can even make your own.

Bubbles

I’ve seen a few automatic bubble blowers recently and it looks like something that’s a smart investment. The bubbles blow on their own and you don’t have to worry about losing your breath. Anything that occupies a preschool for longer than five minutes is a smart investment! Just think, you can blow the bubbles whenever you are outside in the backyard playing or when you need five minutes to think to yourself. Or you can do it the old fashion way and pick up a few packages of bubbles at your local dollar store and have them blow away. The look of achievement after blowing their biggest bubble will amaze you and them too.

Water Table

Although a water table requires supervision, it can keep your preschooler occupied for quite some time! You can make your own water table or order one from the store. There’s probably nothing better on a hot summer day, than a water table to play in. I’m sure your preschooler would agree. Who doesn’t love splashing in cool water on a hot day?

Bubble Bath

Let’s say you’ve done everything else and you’re not sure what else you can do to keep your preschooler occupied, think BATH TIME. Bubble baths are an awesome way to break up the monotony of summer. You can buy items like bath crayons, bath coloring, and even various bath toys. Don’t be afraid to make bath time, learning time. You can also purchase letters of the alphabet and numbers to use in the bathtub.

Let’s discuss: What are some ways you keep your preschooler or even older kids occupied in the summer months?
