Sweet Cherry & Peach Smoothie‏

While I love to say "It's Summer!", summer doesn't really officially begin until Sunday, June 21st which coincidentally is Fathers Day this year. We've been having such great weather though that it does seem like summer. Like I've said before I like to call it Sprimmer. It's been a mixture of both Spring and Summer weather here. A bit of rain mixed in with lovely sunshine. While being a morning person, meaning that I get up super early, I still manage to skip breakfast most days. Even though I'm now retired I've still found myself getting up and not having anything to eat until around 1pm and I know it's bad for me and I'm trying to change it gradually. While I'm not a big breakfast person, one way that I've started making the change is by having a smoothie for breakfast in the morning. It's my way of actually saying "well I had something to eat" and I incorporate my daily serving of fruit and/or veggies for the day. Today I want to share with you my Sweet Cherry and Peach Smoothie. Cherries are in abundance at the supermarket right now and this is certainly one sweet way to incorporate them in your daily diet.

Here is what you'll need:

Makes two 12-ounce smoothies

Ingredients:

2 cups fresh cherries, pitted
1 1/2 cups fresh peaches, peeled and pitted (appx. 3 small)
1/4 cup vanilla almond milk creamer (or regular almond milk)
1 banana, frozen
Sweetener of your choice, if desired

Instructions:

1. Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth and frothy.

2. Taste and add sweetener, if desired.

3. Serve immediately or cover and store in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Shake well before serving.

Notes:

This smoothie is mostly fruit, which makes it light and refreshing, especially served cold. For extra protein, you could add some vanilla Greek yogurt or even protein powder.

Depending on how sweet (or tart) your cherries are, the amount of sweetener will vary. I used about a tablespoon of honey in this one.

If you like a thicker/colder smoothie, you can add some ice when you blend it. And if you like it thinner, just add more liquid.
