My Visit to Michael’s Passport to Imagination

Disclaimer: I received a gift card to attend Michael’s Passport to Imagination and share my experience with you.

Can I tell you a secret? Mommy isn’t very creative and while she sometimes do a bit of craft stuff with me, it usually takes her a very long time to figure out what she wants to do. By that time I’m already bored and willing to forget about even participating. I only do it because it makes her happy. After all a happy mommy also means a happy Madison. When we were offered the chance to check out Michael’s and their Passport to Imagination program, it was a no-brainer. I had recently shared the program with you, if you don’t remember you can read our Passport to Imagination post. Here’s another secret, mommy and I had never been into Michael’s before. Don’t ask why because our Michael’s is very conveniently located nearby to Starbucks and Chipotle and that’s two stores that mommy practically lives in. So convenient location and yet mommy and I had never been into Michael’s. Boy were we missing out!

Mommy no longer needed to have an active imagination because Michael’s had everything that you can think about. It was truly a sight to behold. From wooden boxes that you can paint to flowers and vases, there was something for everyone. Mommy even picked up a tie-dye kit and a tee which she plans on doing. You know I’m going to share that experience with you because I can almost picture the results which I’m sure would not be that great. But I digress. I’m here to tell you about my Passport to Imagination trip.

When mommy and I got to Michael’s it was still a bit early. We decided to go to the 1-3pm session since the morning one was filled. Since I wasn’t old enough to stay by myself mommy had to stay with me. While the Passports to Imagination sessions are for children ages 5+, they do make exceptions if the parents are willing to sit with the child. For the older ones it’s almost like your in-store baby sitting while you shop.

Our week that we decided to go I got to learn about the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas, Texas. Our craft work was also based on items that we would get to see at the museum. It was all about outerspace and I was able to make a constellation with my name and also designed an art piece with the planets. Now being one of the first 50 participant to the event entitles you to a Michael’s Passport to Imagination portfolio where you can store your work, and I also received a bag to put everything in.

The staff at Michaels were very friendly and also very understanding. Being the youngest participant there they were very patient with me and I really appreciated that. I even got a hug in the end for being such a good artist.

It was really a lot of fun and guess what? This only costs $2! Can you believe that? It was the cost of less than that cup of coffee that mommy buys. For something educational and fun it was so worth it!

If you have a Michael’s near you I would suggest enrolling your kids in the Passport to Imagination events. They would enjoy it and so would you. If you can do it every week then that would be even better. Unfortunately mommy and I can’t go weekly but I do have plans on going back before it ends. There is still 3 weeks left so reserve a class today.
