Throwback Thursday: My Christening

It’s Thursday and the weekend is almost here. I know most of you, mommy included, are very happy that the work week is soon to be over. There is only one more day left and you can’t wait for it to get here so you can have fun with your family over the weekend.

Well as promised I’ve decided to do another Throwback Thursday where I bring back an old picture from my past and share a little story about it so you can get to know me a little bit better. So welcome to my…

Mommy and I consider ourselves to be Christians but you won’t find our blog teaching about Christianity. There are lots of other blogs out there for that. Everyone has their own belief and we appreciate that and would never try to thrust our belief on anyone.

Yeah mommy had to choose the photo where I didn’t look to happy.

Well according to mommy’s religion the belief is that a child is to be consecrated to God and if you want your child to start that first step into Christianity then a christening is the way to go.

Apparently this day was considered a HUGE deal for mommy and everyone. I was 4/12 months old in this picture. They got ready and everyone got dressed up including me. I think I looked the best that day. I was dressed all in white, even down to my shoes. I guess since I already wore white once I may just wear red to my wedding. Think mommy would like that?

A Christening is a great way to bring family and friends together. Everyone wants to be included in your big day. There are a few things you may want to consider when having a christening.

GODPARENTS: Do you want to have godparents? If you do then the other question would be, do they have the qualities that you’re looking for in a parent? If you’re choosing a friend, would this friend be around 10-15 years from now. Would they still be a friend? Would you trust this person with your child you you happen to pass away? These are tough questions to answer but ones you should really think about. In my case, mommy opted not to have any godparents.

THE CHRISTENING OUTFIT: So you have decided that this is the way for you to go. Traditionally the color for a christening is white but you may dress your little one in whatever you have or whatever you’re comfortable with. No one is judging you and if they are they shouldn’t be!

CEREMONY: Contact your home church and talk to your pastor about what is available. Most churches have a time set aside for this special day of yours. For example in mommy’s church it’s done the 2nd Sabbath of every month. If given a specific time you would want your guests to arrive at least 20 minutes prior so that they won’t miss anything.

AFTER THE EVENT: You may want to have a special get together for everyone that has attended your big day and that is great. Some of your friends may have come from very far so a light snack after the event will be appreciated. One thing that mommy also did after mine was over was have thank you cards sent to those who attended letting them know that it was nice of them to attend my special day.

Well there you have it. I hope I was able to give some tips to those who are planning their little one’s big day as well.
