How to Become a Social Media Influencer ~ #ForLifeBenBridge

Can I say how much I despise the term "blogger" or "mommy blogger". Whenever anyone asks for my profession, besides being a retired military vet, I always say:
I'm a social media influencer
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Ben Bridge Jeweler. All opinions are 100% mine.

So what exactly does that mean and how does one become one? I'll share my tips on how I became a social media influencer and how you can too, but first let me go into a bit of detail why I don't truly consider myself just a "blogger". While I do own a blog, I do publish my content on various other forms of social media. You also don't have to own a blog in order to be considered a social media influencer. There are many influencers out there who do NOT own a blog. You can be an influencer while only sharing your influence on YouTube or Instagram for example. So get that term blogger out of your head. I'm not just a "blogger", I'm a social media influencer! And what exactly does that mean? A social media influencer collaborates with companies to bring awareness to their brand to their social audience, with the goal of driving sales. While it may not always happen, it's what we do. So how can you become one? Here are three easy ways!

Do what you love!
One advice that was given to me a very long time ago was to "find my niche" and it's still something that most would tell you. However, I'm here to tell you to do what you love! When you do what you love it will come naturally and easily to you. However, on the flip side of that is to find your focus. While you may love doing a bit of everything, there will always be something that stands out and that you love doing more than others. For example, you may love talking about life in general, but you may also love to cook. You can focus on recipes while incorporating other lifestyle posts on your channel.

Engage With Others Online
In order to become a social media influencer, you need to be seen. One of the best ways to be seen is to engage with other influencers across various platforms regularly. Visit other blogs and leave comments on their posts. Retweet your favorite tweets and don't just like Instagram and Facebook posts, but comment on them as well. Sharing your knowledge across platforms can help you stand out.

Create valuable content consistently
Did you notice that I used the word consistently and not constantly? There is a difference between the two. Consistently means that you would put out your content frequently, while constantly means without interruption. I consistently write on my blog but I also take a break every once in a while. Think about publishing at least 2-3 times a week if you can. The content I also create are lifestyle focused posts that not only show the product I'm promoting in it's best light, but is also something that you can use. For example. Today's post is all about how you can become a social media influencer, but I'm also partnering with Ben Bridge Jeweler to show you how I incorporate their jewelry in my everyday life.

Ben Bridge pieces are made of real metals built to last the test of time and become more perfect over time because of the meaning and stories behind the pieces. I love wearing jewelry because they make me feel sophisticated. Since I'm such a big fan of purple, I chose this Ben Bridge Rhodolite garnet pendant with 1/4 carat total weight of diamonds, set in 14K rose gold. The piece is a statement piece for sure and my photo doesn't do it any justice at all. Their Toscano Rectangle Earrings are truly a work of art and is so elegant that you may not want to ever take them off. So whether you're a social media influencer or thinking of becoming one, with these simple tips you can do it. And wear your Ben Bridge jewelry pieces anywhere for any moment of your life.

  1. Great advice and like you I hate when people just call me a "mommy blogger" as there is so much more to what I do here daily by far. So definitely going to start referring to myself more now as a Social Media Influencer. Thanks for the push to do so :)

  2. These are some great tips for those starting out at being influencer's.

  3. These are excellent tips. Everyone thinks that all it takes to be an influencer is just to throw some stuff out there on social media. It is SO much more than that.

  4. These are great tips. That pendant is so pretty, I need to look at the Ben Bridge collection.

  5. Content is king. Us influencers need to be on top of how good our stuff is and how often we crank it out.

  6. This is great advice! Communicating with other bloggers definitely helps. I love the garnet pendant you were wearing!

  7. I love being able to do what I love. Although my social media is travel focused, I totally understand the motivation behind finding your passion and making it your career.

The necklace is beautiful and goes so perfectly with your hair!

  8. I struggle tons with engaging, I'm terrible at it, but I love how it affects things. I haven't used the term social media influencer, I usually just say I'm a blogger, but I'm definitely a different type of blogger than most.

  9. This is so true - I think people tend to brand people as "mummy bloggers" or whatever to try and water down what they do. It's a hard slog turning out quality content regularly and it deserves some recognition! Love your stuff AnnMarie!

  10. Awesome post! I have been a social media influencer for quite some time already. Sometimes I use the term social media maven.

  11. It is so important to build strong content. People stay for quality.

  13. Spot on advice. I started my blog when I started working for myself. I never considered myself a "blogger" even though I've kept a blog for a couple of years. The blog really is just a piece of a bigger picture and I consider myself an entrepreneur.

  14. Very lovely necklace! It's so chic and pretty! I would love to work with more brands so I can feel more comfortable with the social media influencer title.

  15. I despise the term "mommy blogger" too. These are all great tips. You can't be selfish and expect to get anywhere. The good bloggers lift each other up by connecting and sharing each other's content and that's a huge help when the community is supporting each other. BTW, that pendant is stunning on you!

  16. Your jewelry looks so chic! I love engaging with other social media influencers! It's hard to explain to people outside of blogging what it really encompasses.

  17. I haven't covered all the aspects of social media, it's normally just my blog posts. That all changed when I launched my A Healing Spirit business. It does help to have quality posts and to engage with people as much as you can. I am loving your necklace, it's really beautiful.

  18. This is so true! Social media influencer is such a perfect term! I love this term as I know how people get influenced by many personalities in social media.

  19. I love the necklace! How gorgeous. Great advice for people who want to be a social media influencer!

  20. I'm fairly blown away by your earrings and how your necklace matches your hair. I can't wait to check out more.
And during the last year, I have start calling myself an influencer instead of a blogger. It's so true that we are more than the blog. I know that some people are one or the other but I certainly do it all.

  21. I love the idea of calling ourselves social media influencers. It sounds so much easier for people to understand. Whenever I say blogger, they look at me strangely. We are influencers so why not brag about that.

  22. Very well said! And the necklace is made of some extremely nice materials. I would really love to have a green one.

  23. I have a friend who only does instagram. She doesn't have a blog at all and still does a lot.

  24. Great post! I've never really thought about it, but I guess I'm a social media influencer too. It definitely keeps me busy! Loving that necklace too, very pretty.

  25. I don't mind the name blogger at all...it's what I do. Personally I'm not a fan of the word influencer. It makes what I do seem too much like selling and whilst I do collaborate with brands I don't see it as influencing people to buy. First and foremost I am a writer and a blogger - everything else is just a bonus in my eyes.

  26. I love the idea of saying I am a social media influencer. That is what I do for a living, so it makes sense.

  27. I remember when I said I wanted to be a stay at home mom so I can focus on blogging. My friends at work had that look on their faces that screamed "You'll find yourself begging on the street." Hah. Sorry, no that didn't happen. As long as you follow your passion and write content that is of great value to your audience, blogging is very rewarding. I do not consider myself as a blogger. Thanks to you, I will now rename my craft as Social media influencer.

  28. That sure has a nice ring to it - "Social Media Influencer." Maintaining a blog nowadays is totally different compared to years ago when it first started. "Bloggers" used to do diary-like entries. Now, we write content that is well researched, properly composed and has or can directly influence our readers.

  29. Great advice, girl! I think it all depends on what you offer and discuss. I do consider myself a blogger but I'm trying to cross over to social media influencer! They are VERY different and people use them interchangeably all the time which can be very confusing and misleading.

  30. You look gorgeous in that jewelry! Doesn't help that the life you've designed for yourself is so well suited!

  31. Love this! Such great advice. I've never called myself a social media influencer but it really is what we do! -Jeanine

  32. Being a social media influencer can be so much fun! I love that I am able to share my talents and also those companies that I love.

  33. These are all great tips. I have to say that's a beautiful necklace though and I am really crushing on those earrings. I would love to have myself a pair.

  34. I don't mind being called a mommy blogger. It lets me do both things that I love - I am a mom first and then because I am a blogger I can spend more time with my kids. (But we definitely do more than blog!)

  35. I can't ever publish something that isn't valuable. I am not yet a social media influencer yet though. Great post!

  36. These are great tips on becoming a social media influencer. And yes, I'm with you on the mommy blogger term (insert roll eyes lol).
