1. Bring out the Fall Decor
Say goodbye to summer by putting away the bright summer colors, and make way for the darker hues of oranges and browns that autumn brings. I'm a big fan of decorating and my entryway table always announce what season we're in. You can get your decor from a department store, craft store or even your local dollar store. Decor is usually available as early as August so don't procrastinate. If you're crafty enough, you can even make your own by bringing nature indoors. Add a few leaves and acorns to a jar like we did to give your home an autumn element.
2. Get Your Winter Clothes and Linen From Storage
Pack up your lighter summer clothes and replace them with your warmer clothes for the season. Now is also the time to see what will make it for next season. If you've gained a few pounds and your clothing no longer fits, think of donating, recycling, selling or even giving them away to make space for other things. Also swap out your lighter linen for heavier, thicker, warmer blankets or duvets.
3. Bring out the Scents
Fall for me is all about cooking and baking in the kitchen. It's about pumpkin spice and the great outdoors. So find some of your favorite scents and light a candle or two or even melt a few waxes. Febreze has introduced a new fall scent, the Big Sur Scent which is vibrant, citrusy and spicy. It eliminates odors so your home smells like it's perched on the limb of a sandalwood tree.
4. Organize Your Pantry and Kitchen
Throw away old and expired items and stock up on staples such as sugar, flour and rice. Clean up your cupboards and refrigerator and make sure that your kitchen appliances are in good working condition. Have them serviced if needed because you do not want to be caught without something in your pantry, or with a non working appliance when the weather gets bad.
5. Clean the House
This is the only time it's legal to acquire child labor, and by that I mean the help of your children. Have them go through each room, starting with their own and get rid of everything that they no longer want. Clean windows, dust, mop the floors and don't forget the laundry.
I just LOVE my Swiffer. The Swiffer Wetjet makes clean up a breeze and according to my little one "it's fun". It's the only time that the kids don't mind mopping the floor. And now they've introduced a new formula for wood surfaces. I live in a multi-surface household, so it's good to know that there is now a formula made just for my wood floors.
So are you as excited for fall as I am? Use my easy fall reset tips and you'll have a fall home that you will never want to leave and everyone wants to visit.
