3 Reasons You Might Need a Tutor

My kids are all back in school, and I’m sure so are yours. Whether you homeschool or not, it’s just that time of the year. I’m going to be honest with you. I graduated from college over 20 years ago. The British do things differently than Americans. We start college at age 16, so we get out of school a little bit younger than Americans do. However, I also went to college here in the US and graduated, but it has been a while. After all, I’m 40 years old, and while I know that you’re never too old to go to college, I wanted it done as early as possible, when I still had all my faculties intact.

Now it’s my children’s turn. My eldest is in her 3rd year of college, and my oldest son will start college in just 2 years. What that means for me and him is that he’s now doing work that I did years ago, and I’m going to be the first to tell you that I have no idea what some of the work he’s doing is all about. Even my 11-year-old’s math is sometimes confusing, and I have to tell him, “Ask your teacher tomorrow.” But thanks to Wyzant Tutoring he doesn’t need to wait until “tomorrow.” However, I want to share with you these 3 reasons you may need a tutor.

1. Failing Grades

Failing grades are the number one reason that your child may need a tutor. If your child is used to bringing home A’s and now he’s bringing home C’s and D’s, that’s a sure sign that your child may need help in whatever subject he may be failing. Talk to your child about their grades, but don’t be judgmental; instead, consider ways that you can help. Keep an eye on their homework, tests, quizzes, etc., and don’t wait until those first midterm test results show up. Don’t wait until your student brings home an F; get help before it’s too late.

2. You Can’t Help With Homework When Asked

If your child is struggling and you can’t help with homework when asked, that’s also a way to know that you’re going to need help, and a tutor might just be the way to do so. With Common Core becoming more common, there are lots of parents who are now actively seeking help. I’m going to admit that I’m one of those parents. When did math become so difficult? If you can’t help with homework, find a tutor who can. Don’t let pride get in the way; if you can’t do it, you just can’t.

3. Homework Taking Longer Than Usual

If homework that once used to take an hour now takes three hours, it might be time to worry. Granted, more and more homework has been sent home lately, but if that is also accompanied by frustration, then there is a very good chance that a tutor might be needed. When frustration and helplessness set in, you may now be dealing with a child who no longer wants to do the work. A child may also start hating school because, to them, they may feel like a failure because they “just can’t do it.”

My son is currently taking Statistics in high school, which is a college course. He LOVED Algebra I, and he couldn’t wait for Algebra II, which he finished successfully. However, he now has a love/hate relationship with Statistics, and according to him, he just doesn’t get it, and it’s hard. I’m also going to be honest here. I’m a business major, and I only took math because it was mandatory, but I’m horrible at math. I wasn’t going to pretend that I could help, so I decided to find him a tutor. I had recently heard about Wyzant Tutoring and I decided to give them a try.

Whether your child is struggling with a subject or you’d just love for them to get ahead in language lessons or even want to find a piano teacher – Wyzant has the most comprehensive network of expert tutors in the U.S. Now as a mother, I want nothing but the best for my kids, and I wanted to be able to have choices. With our busy schedules, I wanted the option of having someone come to my home, but online work is just as great and maybe even better since I now have experts all across the country willing to help. It was so simple to set up my online profile, and you too can see how Wyzant works here for yourself.

I felt comfortable finding the perfect tutor for my son because Wyzant gave me all the tools I needed to make the right decision. I can find a budget within my price range, read their ratings and reviews from other students, and I could even ask the tutor to run a background check. What I absolutely LOVED was that my first lesson was backed by Wyzant’s good fit guarantee, so if I wasn’t satisfied with it, it would have been absolutely free!

Now my son has help from an online tutor and is doing much better in Statistics. He’s able to do the work in the comfort of our home, usually outdoors because he claims it’s much nicer there, and I couldn’t have been happier. There are more than 80,000 expert tutors just waiting to help your child in more than 300 subjects, and it can all be done online on Wyzant’s website or mobile app. With no upfront costs, you only pay after your lesson ends, and it is all processed securely.
