How to Keep An Indoor Cat Happy featuring Meow Mix Bistro Recipes

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of The J.M. Smucker Company. The opinions and text are all mine.

Most cat owners feel that it is necessary to allow their cat outdoor time, but the reality is outdoor time is not a requirement. Your feline pet can do just fine inside as long as you follow some of the proper steps to keep an indoor cat happy. This post is in collaboration with the J. M. Smucker Company and the NEW Meow Mix Bistro. We recently got a kitten, Whitney, that we tried keeping indoors but she has now gotten a taste of the great outdoors and now she begs to go outside to fulfill her outdoor adventures. However, if you want to keep your cats indoors at all times, you will have to establish boundaries and also start by making your home a bit more feline friendly. Here are just a few ways that you can do that.

Buy a Tree House, also known as a cat condo for use as a scratching post and climbing location for your indoor cat.

Play with your cat, your feline friend loves to hide and pounce on things so be sure to get their activity level in every day with playtime.

Plant a few pots of cat friendly grass; they love to have this because it reminds them of their natural outdoor habitat.

Invest in window perches for your indoor cat as a means to keep them happy, they will sit for hours staring out at the birds and enjoy this luxury.

Mount bird feeders outside a window where the cat perch is located, this gives hours of entertainment for your indoor cat.

Purchase CD’s with bird calls and similar nature sounds to play throughout the day to keep your cat engaged and intrigued.

Plant a small pot of catnip or purchase catnip toys; this will lead to hours of laughter for you as you watch your catch go hyper active.

Make sure that your indoor cat still gets an annual exam to ensure their health is in tip top shape.

Feed your cat several small meals per day, this keeps them feeding in the way they would out in nature and a full kitty is a happy kitty. Whitney while spoiled, isn't particularly picky on the food that she eats. My daughter and I were in the cat food section of Walmart and after hearing so much about the NEW Meow Mix Bistro, which is a new line of bistro-inspired dry cat food, prepared with real chicken or salmon, and we decided to pick up a package. I didn't want to get a too big bag because I wasn't sure how Whitney would like it, but oh boy, I should have gotten the big bag. This new Meow Mix Bistro uses higher quality ingredients so I feel good about giving it to my cat and you should too.

Whitney is a big fan of anything fish related, and you can sometimes see her at the fish bowl where our Beta is kept, eyeing it and thinking, "I would love to eat you",  so we decided to get her the salmon. We have tried Meow Mix in the past, but this new Meow Mix Bistro is the cat's meow. Made with real salmon or chicken, using Bistro recipes (meaning that it tasted great) and it's a cat's delight! It is also 100% complete and balanced nutrition with all the essential vitamins and minerals that my cat needs, and best of all it is carefully crafted right here in the USA. What more does a cat mom needs? Well she needed to know that her kitty actually loved it and I have to say that yes she does! She is definitely one spoiled cat and now she's also one happy kitty!

There are many ways you can keep an indoor cat happy, the biggest way to keep your kitty smiling and content with life as an indoor pet is to try to mimic their outdoor environment within your home. As long as you provide your indoor cat with these items listed here, and her very own Meow Mix Bistro, you should be well on your way to having a very happy and healthy cat!

The product can be found at your local Walmart and will also be available on Walmart.com soon. For now, you can find out more about Meow Mix Bistro Recipes here.

Let's discuss: What you do you think of the new Meow Mix Bistro Recipes?
