Make Your Own Spring Wreath

I don’t consider myself a Do-It-Yourself kind of person, but I do believe myself thrifty. If I could make it, then why not? With the change of seasons, I like changing up the decor around my home, I would prefer not to have a Valentine’s Day at Easter and Easter when Spring has officially begun. I wasn’t always like that, however. I was one of those who would have their Christmas tree still up in mid-February and use to think, why take it down just to put it right back up in a few months, even if those few months was 11 months away. Yeah, that was me!

However, life changed as I aged, and while I still take a few things easily, a few things have remained constant. One of them is the way I spend money. Don’t get me wrong, I still spend money on the things I need, but I always think twice about getting the things I want. Just recently, I went to my local Home Goods to get a Spring Wreath. I had an idea of what I wanted, and I knew it had to contain spring like flowers. However, what I didn’t expect was the exorbitant fees associated with wreaths nowadays.

While I saw a few that I loved, I couldn’t justify spending that much money, especially on something I knew that I could make. Luckily my Home Goods is just a few stores away from JoAnn’s. I’m talking about two stores away in the shopping plaza, so I went there, and I’m glad I did. They had a fantastic sale, and the supplies I needed were all on sale. I was able to save so much more by making it myself, and I didn’t do a lousy job. Here’s how you can Make Your Own Spring Wreath.

Spring Wreath

Supplies Needed:

Fake Flowers

12″ Styrofoam Wreath

Glue, Glue Gun

Wide Ribbons of your choosing

Other Spring Decor *optional* (found at local Dollar Store)

Directions

Step 1. Start off by wrapping your ribbon around your styrofoam wreath. Glue the end to the styrofoam, and then start wrapping. We originally started off using E6000 but realized that it doesn’t work as well on styrofoam as it does on other things, so we switched to the glue gun. While you can glue as you go, I found that it wasn’t necessary, and once wrapped, it stayed put.

Step 2.
Depending on how long your ribbon is, you may only need 1 roll. However, we used two rolls of ribbon. Once you get to the end, glue the end together to the styrofoam wreath. Cut off the excess that you do not need.

Step 3. Pull the flowers from their stems. They are usually pretty easy to take off, and Madison even helped.

Step 4. Attach your flowers to your now wrapped wreath form with the hot glue. You can do them in a floral color pattern like I did, or any way you like. Remember, this is all yours, and it’s going to be unique.

I also picked up some spring decor (birds and butterflies) at my local dollar store and attached it to the wreath.

If you have leftover ribbons, attach a small piece to the back so that you can hang it. I also had a wide red ribbon that I decided to use. I shaped it into a bow and attached it to the front of the wreath, giving it a more festive look.

Can you believe how easy this was to make? Now, while I picked up my supplies at JoAnn’s, you can also find all the supplies at your local dollar store. If you decide to get your supplies there, this entire project will cost you less than $10. This craft project was thrifty and a lot of fun, and I think it turned out pretty well too.
