Madison’s Haircare Regimen with My Honey Child Haircare Products

First, let me begin by saying that this is NOT a sponsored post. All products were purchased with my own money.

I’ve been meaning to write this post for some time now but I’m finally getting around to it. Like my mom would say “better late than never”. Living in Colorado it’s hard to find products that are made for our hair type. Being African American or Caribbean American as I like to call us, our hair is a mixture of textures. When I lived in NYC because of the humidity, my hair I noticed not only grew faster, I also didn’t have to worry much about moisture, unlike here in Colorado with the lack of humidity our hair gets very very dry and I’m always having to apply products.

I have tried numerous products with very little results that I like. I did a post a few years ago about the Shea Moisture kids line which is still one of my most read haircare product posts. Unfortunately, we didn’t particularly like Shea Moisture so it sent us back to searching again. When I use products in my hair I want it to have as little chemicals as possible. I tend to look for natural products to use in our natural hair. After much Google search and reading tons of online reviews, I happened onto My Honey Child haircare products. I placed an order, got it within a week, and fell in love.

Now, this is what prompted me to finally write this post. We were in NYC not too long ago and I had Madison’s hair in a beaded protective style and I was asked quite a few times about it. One of the questions that I was also asked was “what do you use in her hair?”. A lot of people are under the misconception that all African Americans have very kinky hair that feels like steel wool or that if it’s of average length we must be doing something different. Au-contraire! I may have mentioned before that most Caribbean Americans are of mixed heritage. Madison is a mixture of European, African and Carib Indian descent. Her curls might not be too loose but it’s also not tightly coiled. So where does My Honey Child come in?

As I mentioned, there is a lack of humidity in Colorado, I actually think it might be nonexistent so our hair tends to get really really dry, before I found My Honey Child I would constantly have to reapply product after product trying to keep it moisturized. What that left me with was hair that had so much build-up that it was disgusting. That also meant that I had to constantly keep on washing her hair as well to get rid of most of the build-up. I wanted something that would keep her hair moisturized and something that I won’t have to keep on reapplying every single day.

When I heard of the My Honey Child Type 4 Hair Creme, I just had to give it a try and boy was I amazed once I placed my order and received it. I purchased the Type 4 Hair Kit which included the Hair Creme, Olive You Deep Conditioner, and O’Honey Curl Mist.  Included with the kit for free is a 2oz Maki-Da-Da Scalp Therapy which is an amazing hair oil. The ingredients in the hair oil are Soybean Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, and Peppermint Oil. I constantly used the hair oil so it didn’t last too long.

Now here is something that you may not know. I only wash Madison’s hair about once every 2 months. You probably think that her hair must be really dirty and stinky. That’s another misconception. While I only wash her hair infrequently, I don’t wash her hair with shampoo. I co-wash her hair with the Olive You Deep Conditioner. I found that when I would wash her hair, her hair became even drier.

I found out that I was actually washing away all the oils and stripping her hair. Co-washing her hair has kept the moisture in so much better and the Olive You Deep Conditioner not only rehydrates but leaves her hair smelling amazing. Once I finish co-washing I then use the Aloe Vera Leave in Hair Treatment. I use it on her wet hair and also dry hair in between washes.

So why doesn’t her hair stink or why isn’t her hair dirty? Well between washes I mist her hair with the O’Honey Curl Mist. I would apply a little of the Type 4 Hair Creme and mist her hair throughout. It does an amazing job keeping her hair moisturized which is what I’m striving for. There was one other product that I ended up getting as well. I purchased the Coconut Hair Milk. I used to use a hair milk from Carol’s Daughter and I have to admit that it was horrible. It left her hair feeling rather coarse. I’d read so much rave reviews about it but it didn’t work out for us at all.

Whenever I do a protective style in Madison’s hair I always make sure to use the coconut milk in conjunction with all the other products. So far so good and as I’ve mentioned, it’s been more than a year since I’ve been using My Honey Child haircare products. Now while you may find less expensive products, they didn’t work for us. And while these have worked wonders for us, they might not work for you. The hair creme because of its consistency lasts a lot longer than the other products but they do last quite a long time.

I’ve been very happy with them and it’s almost time for me to place another order. Now if you’re African American and you’re reading this and there’s another product that you swear by, I’d love to hear about it. I’m not averse to trying new products in my hair. If it works for me then I’d love to try it in Madison’s as well. I’ve been natural after doing the big chop a year ago myself so I use this in my hair along with Madison’s. So let us know which has worked for you.
