Meet Lea, American Girl's 2016 Girl of the Year!

We are HUGE American Girl fans and couldn't wait to find out who the new Girl of the Year was going to be. Well today girls will go wild for Lea Clark, American Girl's 2016 Girl of the Year. Lea, a talented photographer with a love for animals, discovers a wide world of possibilities on a family trip to Brazil. Her adventurous spirit and desire to live life to the fullest leads her to explore the Amazon rainforest during her visit. Available for only one year, Lea's collection includes three books that tell her story, a beautiful 18-inch Lea doll, and an array of Brazilian-inspired outfits and accessories.

The 18”Lea doll has warm hazel eyes, medium skin, and long wavy hair. Lea arrives in a colorful dress with braided trim, underwear, and sandals with crisscrossed laces. Also included are her colorful canvas messenger bag, a pretend compass necklace, and the Lea Dives In paperback book by Lisa Yee.

And, to show girls that, together, they can help protect animals and their habitats, American Girl has created Wild at Art -- a year-long fund-raising initiative in support of World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Starting January 1, American Girl is encouraging girls to use their artistic abilities to host an art sale and donate the proceeds to WWF. To launch the campaign, American Girl has made a $50,000 donation to WWF and also invites customers to contribute at American Girl retail stores and on the website. Parents can visit to learn more and register for Wild at Art, plus get animal-themed craft ideas, and be entered into a sweepstakes for the chance to win one of 17 Lea prize packages.

In addition, from January 1 through December 31, 2016, for every purchase of one of the three plush animals in Lea’s collection—the margay, sea turtle, or sloth—American Girl will donate $1 (up to a maximum of $100,000) to WWF.

Other Lea-related activities for girls include an exclusive paid app where girls can join Lea in Brazil for an adventure of a lifetime with this paid app, featuring beautiful graphics, exclusive content, and endless play. The app retails for $1.99 and is available for download on Girls can also visit the Lea-dedicated site for book excerpts, movie-related content, games and quizzes, wallpaper and e-cards, and much more. There will also be year-long Lea-themed retail events. where girls will get a first look at her full product collection, plus enjoy in-store activities, colorful crafts, giveaways, and a fun photo opportunity. Girls can also take part in free and paid Lea-related events throughout the year. A full-length Lea movie will debut on DVD from Universal Studios Home Entertainment later in 2016.

  1. I missed out on the one for last year but I'm thinking that this one is much nicer. I know a little someone who would love her.

    1. Awww so sorry you missed out on Grace Thomas. She was a baker and once she's gone, she's gone forever. :( However I'm sure your little one would just absolutely love Lea.

  2. I had no idea this was a thing... a new doll for the new year. We got our catalog, though!
And you know I love the photographer thing! And the sloth thing!
I love that they donate to WWF.

    1. Oh yes Tamara, every year there is a new Girl of the Year and she is only available for that year. Once the year is over she disappears and you can no longer get her. There are those who collect them but I just love the classics. I think Lea would be perfect for you since you're both photographers and I'm sure you'll be able to take amazing photos of Brazil if you ever get to visit.

  3. When I was younger and lived in Florida I used to get the American Girls Catalog. I used to dream of getting all the dolls! lol The one doll every year makes this fun for people that collects dolls!

    1. I think we had the same dream Marielle. I owned Samantha and she was the only doll I owned from American Girl. My mother couldn't afford a doll every year but it's great for those who collect them.

  4. Those dolls are so cute. My daughter loves the American Girl dolls. She has Julie.

    1. It's really just one doll, Lea and she is beautiful. Julie is beautiful as well.
