Make Your Own Pumpkin Pie Spice

It’s pumpkin everything season. Seems like everywhere you go you just can’t miss the smell of pumpkins or even see a pumpkin. They’re in the neighbors yard, at the grocery store, they’re just everywhere. It seems like October just seems to scream “Bring On The Pumpkins!’. In just about a week we will also be heading out to a pumpkin patch as well, yes you got it, even more pumpkins. Now that’s just where the pumpkin frenzy begins but it can be so much fun. Well in honor of pumpkin month as I like to call it, today we want to share with you our own homemade recipe for Pumpkin Pie Spice. We know you just love those pumpkin spice lattes, and now you can make them in the comfort of your own home without running out to that expensive coffee store to get one. Trust me I know, I have a gold card for them too but there’s nothing like making your very own. So without further ado, our Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice.

Here is what you’ll need:

Ingredients:

1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom

1 teaspoon allspice

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon ground cloves

2 teaspoons ground ginger

5 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

Add all the ingredients to a small bowl and whisk to combine. If you have any large pieces of spice that don’t want to break down, you can pour this into a fine mesh strainer and sift them out.

Taste and adjust the spice amounts to your liking.

Pour into a spice jar and store at room temperature.

Notes:

To give this as a gift, you can tie a burlap bow or ribbon around the lid and include a handwritten recipe for anything that uses pumpkin pie spice.

The nice thing about making your own spice mixes is that you can customize them to your taste. Most pumpkin pie spice mixes don’t have enough cinnamon or ginger for me, so I like to add a little extra.

The cardamom is also not something you usually find in most mixes, but I love the spicy, citrusy flavor it gives. It’s that little something in the background that you can’t quite put your finger on, but I like it and I just know that you will too.
