Gobble Gobble Tucker! by Leslie McGuirk

Is it still Toddler Book Talk Tuesday? You bet it is and it’s still our Thanksgiving week and I have another book I want to share with you. Thanksgiving may just be one of my favorite holidays. Why is that? Well I get to eat to my hearts content. I have quite a few relatives who live in Canada and they celebrate their Thanksgiving in October. If only I can be there in October and then back here in the US in November. Would I be greedy? I don’t think so, after all who doesn’t like Thanksgiving dinner. That’s why today I want to share with you another of my favorite. It’s “Gobble Gobble Tucker!” written and illustrated by Leslie McGuirk.

If you’re a Tucker fan you may have realized from the cover that this is the Thanksgiving edition of the Tucker series. Yes there are more Tucker books and for those that don’t know, Tucker is a dog. A lovable terrier! Dog lovers would thoroughly enjoy these books.

Thanksgiving is one of Tucker’s favorite of days. It’s the day that his cousins come by to visit with their human family. It’s also the day that some of his favorite food is served, lots of food to be exact. When his cousins end up begging for food before dinner is served, Tucker knows better and sits patiently. They eventually gets shooed outside to play football in the leaves which Tucker loves. Guess it’s not just humans who love football around Thanksgiving.

Here is an excerpt:

When the doorbell rings, Tucker runs to greet everyone.

Some pat his head or – even better – give him a belly rub!

The books has very simple illustrations and is told from Tuckers point of view. It goes through the Thanksgiving celebrations from the preparation of the meals, to friends and family coming by right to the very end when dinner is served. It does teach the simple lesson of patience which us toddlers don’t have too much of.

It is a very easy book to read and your little ones would enjoy looking at the photos. Who doesn’t like looking at dogs having fun and enjoying their own Thanksgiving feast? If you’re looking into getting another book that talks about Thanksgiving, I would definitely recommend this one and give it my TWO TINY THUMBS UP!
