Tiggly Counts – The Interactive iPad Learning Toy

Last year a little around this time I did a review on Tiggly Shapes, the brand new learning toy for the iPad that was about to be released. Since then I have had lots of time to play with the apps on mommy’s iPad at the time. For my second birthday in January I was given my very own iPad Mini and a few of my favorite apps were included. Guess which ones made it? Of course, the Tiggly apps did! Tiggly Shapes was my first foray into the world of learning my shapes and the four shapes that were included were the very first ones that I learned. It was fun learning to say “triangle”, “circle”, “star” and “square” and actually identifying them as well. Well I have awesome news! Tiggly, the makers behind Tiggly Shapes have reinvented the wheel so to speak and they are now introducing a brand new toy for the iPad once again. Let me introduce you to Tiggly Counts, available now for pre-order for $29.95.

I was given the opportunity to try out this brand new toy and so far I have not been disappointed. This is once again a HIT! The makers truly underestimate the learning that can be done with this simple and unique toy. While it’s a great mathematical tool, the fun bright colors teaches hand to eye coordination, colors and of course numbers. Tiggly Counts is the first truly fun math toy for pre-schoolers. It’s a truly unique game play experience that merges physical and digital play in an engaging and developmentally appropriate way.

Inspired by the classic cuisenaire rods used in Montessori classrooms, Tiggly Counts features five colorful counting toys that physically interact with three new, parent- and educator-approved Tiggly learning apps for the iPad. But to really understand it you have to see it in action.

Together with the apps, Tiggly Counts is designed with children in mind. The Tiggly Counts rods are lightweight and easily grasped in small hands, helping young learners understand the relationships between numbers both concretely and spatially. The counting toys connect magnetically with one another, allowing children to represent the number “four” through a combination of “one” and “three,”for instance.

Children can manipulate these toys to solve mathematical problems in the exciting and rewarding world of digital apps. Preschoolers’ guided actions on these real objects throughout the narrative helps anchor abstract mathematical concepts, while their vivid, engaging stories bring to life important mathematical ideas.

Currently there are three apps available and they’re a joy to play:

Tiggly Cardtoons: This app stretches children’s imaginations while they learn basic math ideas such as one-to-one correspondence, counting and equal sets.

Tiggly Addventure: Children use counting rods to build bridges and ladders while gaining an introduction to number line concepts and improving their number sense.

Tiggly Chef: Children prepare silly recipes with Tiggly Town’s greatest chef while learning numbers, early addition concepts, math symbols and problem solving.

All three apps will be available free for download from Apple’s App Store, starting October 7; premium versions can be unlocked with the purchase of Tiggly Counts.

Even though Tiggly Countsdoesn’t launch for a few more weeks, they’ve already won the 2014 Tillywig Brain Child Award as one of the most “exciting products that energize the mind while seamlessly blending fun and learning.”

I have learned so much from using Tiggly Shapes, from my shapes, to colors, animals and now I’m learning how to count with Tiggly Counts. I can’t wait to see what Tiggly comes out with next and I’m eagerly awaiting it! Of course you know they definitely get my TWO TINY THUMBS UP!

The makers of Tiggly Counts wants to offer my readers a special 30 percent off code on pre-orders of Tiggly Counts. Starting October 7th through October 31, you can save by entering PREORDER30 at checkout on Tiggly.com/counts.
