Visiting a Pumpkin Patch with Your Kids

The weather has gotten cooler indicating that fall is here. There is nothing better than having a few fall traditions. If you don't have some it's not too late to start making some of your own. For many families, fall isn't complete unless they've made a trip to the pumpkin patch. Not convinced you should make a trip to your local pumpkin patch this fall? Here are a few reasons why you should visit the pumpkin patch with your kids.

Hay Rides

Many pumpkin patches also have hay rides available for customers. If you love sitting back and enjoying a scenic ride through nature, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of the hay rides offered by many pumpkin patches. You and your kids will enjoy noticing the sights and smells of fall as you travel around the farm.

Corn Mazes

Corn mazes are also popular activities available at many pumpkin patches. When you and your kids visit your local pumpkin patch, you can enjoy an invigorating trip through the corn maze. You’ll get to use all of your navigation skills in order to make it through the maze in a timely manner. You can even divide your family into two teams and see who can make it through the maze faster.

Treats & Games

Don’t forget to take advantage of the fall treats and games at your local pumpkin patch. Many of these local farms also have small stands or shops for you to buy delicious fall treats. They also have other fall games set up, such as corn hole, bean bag toss, and more.

Pumpkin Picking!

One of the best things about going to the pumpkin patch is picking pumpkins! When you go to the pumpkin patch, you can have a blast searching through the fields for the perfect pumpkin. When you buy pumpkins from the store, you oftentimes settle for the best pumpkin in the box, but these pumpkins usually have something wrong with them. The pumpkin patch gives you the freedom to find the best pumpkin based on your preference for size, color, and shape.

Creating Memories

All of these great things about the pumpkin patch pale in comparison to this reason. When you go to the pumpkin patch, you are creating memories that your family will cherish throughout their lives. You can count on your children extending this tradition with their own families when they are grown.

What are some of the reasons you visit the pumpkin patch? We’d love to hear about your favorite pumpkin patch activities!

  5. We love picking out pumpkins out, as well as the hay rides, too. We do this every year and just a great way to spend time together in the fall and indeed make memories :)

  6. Two of my favorite fall activities when growing up were the yearly apple picking excursion and the trip to the pumpkin patch. We each got to pick our own pumpkins, as long as the shapes weren't all the same. Then back home, closer to halloween we all got to get creative with the carving. Such fun memories. - Katy

  7. I love visiting the pumpkin patch with my family, it has been a family tradition for the past few years. We typically go on hay rides while on the farm and most of the pumpkin patches we have visited have a petting zoo or allow you to check out the farm animals. Always a great time!

  16. I can't believe I am saying this, but I have never taken the boys to a pumpkin patch. I guess it is because I know I wouldn't pay the high prices for their pumpkins, so I avoid going, but it sounds like there are a ton of fun activities they could be doing there.

  28. We have a pumpkin festival here, but I can't convince my husband to go :) It's huge, which is part of the reason he doesn't want to go since the traffic and parking is a mess. I love fall though, it's my favorite season!
