Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark - Xbox One Review

Disclaimer: I received products  for review purposes. No other compensation was received. Though the product was free, opinions are 100% my very own.

I have a treat for you today! It's a big kids review and my brothers and dad will be doing the review for this game. We were recently sent Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark for the Xbox One which is a tie in with the new Transformers Movie that is currently in theaters now. For all you Bumble Bee fans you may want to pick this up!

TRANSFORMERS™: RISE OF THE DARK SPARK is published by Activision Publishing Inc and is currently available on the following platforms, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation® 4, PlayStation® 3, Nintendo Wii U, 3DS & Windows PC.

Players: 1-4 (Single-player Story campaign; 1-4 players online in co-op Escalation mode)
ESRB Rating: T (Teen), 3DS E10+

Pricing: $59.99 (Xbox One/PS4), $39.99 (Xbox 360/PS3/Wii U/PC), $29.99 (3DS)

GAME OVERVIEW
Hasbro’s hugely popular TRANSFORMERS saga returns to celebrate its 30th anniversary with Activision Publishing’s TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE DARK SPARK, a unique, universe-bridging video game arriving alongside Paramount Pictures’ upcoming film, TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION. Combining a gripping single-player story with an energetic, co-operative multiplayer mode, this fast-paced, action adventure gives gamers the chance to jump between two worlds Earth and Cybertron, shift dynamically between robot and vehicle forms in a flash and customize the perfect loadout for churning enemies into scrap.

Features:
A Bridge between Worlds – Weaving together the fabric of two universes, TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE DARK SPARK links director Michael Bay’s TRANSFORMERS movies and Activision’s CYBERTRON video games for the very first time. Featuring over 40 playable characters from the noble AUTOBOTS and treacherous DECEPTICONS, worlds collide in this epic battle between good and evil to claim an ancient, powerful relic – the Dark Spark.

Escalated Escalation – Escalation mode returns, pitting up to four players cooperatively against waves of increasingly brutal adversaries in a frenetic struggle for survival. The introduction of upgradable defense structures, a larger cast of playable characters and daunting Power Foes from TRANSFORMERS lore triggers new possibilities for teamwork, strategy and heroics.

Evolved Character Progression - An exciting new leveling system transforms single-player and multiplayer into one unified, persistent character development path. Experience earned in Campaign and Escalation modes can be applied to unlock new characters, weapons, items and abilities for use throughout the entire game. Experience modifiers allow players to ramp up the speed (and challenge) of acquiring these bonuses.

While the campaign was fun it really didn't live up to the previous Transformers game that we have played and we've played them all. The highlight of the game is definitely the online multiplayer mode. We did have to wait quite a while to get matched up to players and that could be because the servers were quite new. We also experienced quite a bit of lag time which we didn't like too much. Once the game got started though it was fun playing with the other players around the world. Overall we would give this a 3/5.

  1. I love The Transformers! I don't even know why, I just think it is super cool. Now I love the movies, but I am not big into video games so I am not sure I would be interested but I know a few little boys who would probably love it! Thank you so much for sharing!

  5. It looks like something my oldest would like. When he plays video games, he plays just to walk around and explore things LOL, so he doesn't actually play to win. This would be just fine for him :)

  31. Pretty sure this game would be a big hit here. My second oldest has a DS and when he's home to visit, I think his little brother likes to visit with it, as much as he does his brother. ;) They'd both like playing this game, I think.

  32. My cousins are addicted to their X-Box. No joke...they can spend all day playing games on it. It's not my speed, but it looks entertaining enough to stick around for a few games and watch them go crazy. :)

  33. Oh goodness, I scroll through this quick because my boys was over my shoulders trying to see what it was! Off to check it out.

  34. Trying to think off the top of my head how many of the Transformers game my son has on the Xbox 360. LOL He might have them all. We saw the movie in theater and he loved it so it's only a matter of time before he wants to get Rise of the dark spark. We have an xBox One but we rarely ever use it. Christmas is right around the corner so may get him a copy for his 360!
