Cozy's Complete Guide to Girls Hair

Summer is still in full swing!  If there's one thing that mommy loves doing during the summer, it's my hair. When it comes to hair care we've done quite a few things with it. I've done ponytails, you may have even seen my hair braided complete with beads and I just love them. I like to think of my hairstyle as an extension of me and I love having different styles that says I'm unique. With school reopening sooner than later for most kids, Cozy wants to help you look your best with some styles that would say "this is me".

Along with wearing suitable clothing for recreational activities, your little one’s hairstyle should be taken into consideration. Cozy Friedman, kids’ hair authority and owner of Cozy's Cuts for Kids salons in New York City,  provides many practical and effortless hairstyles for kids to enjoy what is left of their summer days. Parents rely on Cozy Friedman and Cozy’s Complete Guide to Girls’ Hair to style their kids tresses for the summer heat. Whether it be a basic bun or looped pigtails, Cozy’s Complete Guide to Girls Hair provides parents with hairstyle ideas for their kids to for any occasion, even when it comes time for back to school.

Here are a few styles that you and your little ones would love.

The Basic Bun
This simple way of scooping hair up always makes girls feel grown-up, and most importantly, getting hair off of her face and neck during the hot summer months!
Don’t make the bun too tight or severe; a softer style is not only prettier, but also more comfy.

Step 1: Starting with damp hair, comb through to smooth and remove tangles.
Step 2: Gather hair in a loose ponytail. Position the ponytail where you want the bun to be on the head: low at the nape, middle of the head, or high on the crown. Secure with a ponytail holder.
Step 3: Twist the ponytail into a tight rope, coiling it around itself at the base.
Step 4: Tuck the ends of the coil into the ponytail holder at the base. Then secure the bun by pushing bobby pins into the hair at the bun’s base on all sides.  The thicker the hair, the more pins you’ll need.  Lightly spritz the bun with hair spray to lock in the style.

Looped Pigtails
Super-simple and super-cute –the looped pigtails shows off your little one’s cute face while keeping them cool!

Step 1: Starting with dry hair, comb or brush the hair to smooth and detangle it.  Part the hair down the middle of the head.
Step 2: Hold the hair from one side of the part and make a low ponytail below the ear on that side, using a cute ponytail holder.  When you pull the hair through the holder for the final time, don't pull it all the way through: Leave the ends stuck in the holder to form a loose loop below.  The longer the hair, the larger the loop will be.
Step 3: Repeat on the other side of the part. Use your fingers to make the loops about the same size on both sides.

Loose Braid
Braids are not going anywhere! An easy but chic style for longer hair, and so on-trend!

Step 1: Starting with dry hair, brush it smooth and detangle it.
Step 2: Using a fine-tooth comb, divide the hair into three equal sections: right, left and middle.
Step 3: Hold the right section in your right hand and the other two sections separately in your left. Cross the right section over the middle section and hold with your left hand. The original right section is not the middle section.
Step 4: Now cross the left section over the middle section. The original left-hand section is now the middle section.
Step 5: Continuing alternating right and left sections over the middle, until you reach the end of the hair. Secure with a ponytail holder.

How do you style your little one's hair during the summer and back to school?

  1. I used to take my kids to Cozy's when they were little and we lived in Manhattan! This brings back so many great memories! And those hairstyles are all adorable.

  2. I kind of want that for me. I am SO bad at doing my own hair. One thing I have always wanted to do is learn to french braid my hair.

  3. Great hairstyle tips for the summer. I think I like the lopped ponytails the best :)

  4. Great ideas,Mine normally have their hair braided as it is much nicer I think. My oldest sometimes has hers in a bun because I do my hair like that a lot.

  5. I have always wondered how they get their braids to be so neat and straight. I need to try this on my Granddaughters since they have longer hair.

  6. this tips are great even just for me!
during summer my princess uses a pony tail and for school, braids :-)

  7. You do have some nice hairstyles Madison and I just love looking at your beads lately. I love pony tails and usually just pull my hair back in one. It makes it so easy to just run out the house. Will have to share this with my sister-in-law. She's always looking for new hairstyles for my niece who has really thick hair. Might have to pick up the book for her.

  8. Those are some very beautiful hairstyles, I love how they all look and would like to try some of these on my daughter.

  9. Great ideas for back to school. I just think doing little girl's hair is so fun and adorable.

  10. This is a tutorial my husband can use! He needs help with the girls hair when I'm away. These are all great looks and I see your point with each of them. Great job.

  11. How cute I want my hair done now. I have a boy so he is pretty easy to get his hair done a quick cut and that's it.

  12. Nice hair styles. Unfortunately my little on only likes a low pony. I have tired to be creative but she gets all sad and will not get out of the house unless her hair is in a low pony.

Very cute ideas ... love the heart braid!! My little one is simple with her hair for now. She likes to wear it down and occasionally with a bow. Maybe she'll get into more styles as she gets older though (almost 4 now).

  14. In the summer I am so lax about how my kids hair looks. They hate when I come near it because they say I hurt them.

  15. My daughter is growing out her bangs so I tie her bangs to the side most days.

  16. I have never cut my kids hair. They remind me of little hippies. They're terrified of visiting the salon. I need to learn how to cut their hair. It gets so tangled too. Can you imagine dealing with 2 heads of curly hair. Yikes. Going to braid their hair before bed.

  17. I suck at braiding my own hair. That heart braid looks so cute though!

  18. I like the basic bun. It is so easy to do and my daughter will sit still for it. Amber N

  19. Very cute! I've always loved a french braid - on myself and on other girls! It's great for keeping the hair out of the face while playing!

  20. Cute! I need to go buy this book! My daughter is just getting to the point where she wants her hair done! Her favorite right now is what she calls an Elsa braid!

  21. Okay I am totally in love with that heart braid. Now I am about to go in my bathroom and try that on

  22. My daughter has just recently let me start trying new things with her hair! I will have to try some of these!

  23. When ever I spend time with my niece I try to always find cute ways to do her hair. I am loving the heart braid. I am wondering if that would work on her hair. I think I am going to have to try!

  24. I have to learn how to do that heart braid in the picture at the top of your post. My girls (9 & 12) would absolutely love it!

  25. I love the heart braid. It is so cute! I would do it if I were younger. Thanks for sharing.

  26. What fun styles! I kind of want to do my hair like that myself :)

  27. So many cute hairstyles here. I love going through different styles with my daughter.

  28. Great! I can use this for back to school. Maybe I'll get a little fancy this year!

  29. This is great! I found it hard at times to do my daughter's hair when she was younger because she had extremely curly/thick hair! Thankfully, she now is addicted to doing her hair herself! I would have loved tips like these!

  30. Those are cute hair styles for little girls. I love them all

  31. I love these hair styles. My almost 5 year old loves for me to braid her hair like the princesses on Frozen. So we go back and forth between a "regular" braid and a mermaid braid.
