Let's Just Call This Mommy Monday Update

You may not have seen my mommy much in my blog posts. Actually she's usually the one behind the camera and very rarely in front of it. After all she's only the writer and this is my blog. I promised yesterday that we will have an update on what has been happening. Today mommy has taken over with what has been going on thus the title Mommy Monday. Yeah Mommy is finally going to have her say so I'm going to let her take over.

I usually don't take over the blog but because we haven't been online much for the past two weeks I wanted to post an update on what has been going on.

Two weeks ago I had major surgery so have been out of commission in terms of being able to get up and do all things I usually do with Madison and for the blog. I was placed on bed rest and told that I needed to stay in bed until I got better.

Being the mom that I am, or maybe I should say, being the US Army soldier that I am, I thought I knew better than the docs, and I'm Army Strong, so I didn't pay them any attention and decided that I was going to get out of bed and continue like I didn't have surgery just two days after being released from the hospital. That didn't work out too well because I ended up in the ER having torn my stitches open.

Being Army Strong didn't work out too well that time. Still not heeding my doctors' instructions, I decided two days later that I was once again going to try again. Well that wasn't the best or wisest thing to do. What I do remember is being awakened by paramedics, because apparently I had passed out in the bathroom. I was found there by my husband and mother-in-law, who travelled all the way from NYC to help take care of the household. Once again after running myriad of tests, I was finally sent home and told to once again take it easy. Easier said than done when you have a 2 year old running wild in your household. I'm sure you mothers may agree with me. It's tough laying in bed when there is so much to do around the house.

Well I am still not strong enough to do all that I want to do. We are behind on reviews but my health obviously comes first, and if that wasn't bad enough, my husband decided on the weekend that he wants to join me in being sick. He decided to go to the gym to play basketball and ended up tearing the tendons in his knee. Today, Monday the 3rd March 2014, he is having knee surgery to repair the damage so we will both be on bed rest.

I haven't forgotten our commitments and they will all be taken care of as soon as I am well. In the meantime I've decided that I needed to give an update to all my readers who have wondered what was going on. To those who have constantly checked in whether on Facebook, Twitter or right here on the blog, I sincerely thank you. Your kind words of encouragement really meant a lot to me. Hugs to you all!

As promised, we'll be back and we'll be back with a bang!

  1. Amanda, seriously thank you so much for the update and you know I have been thinking of you all weekend after we talked on Friday. Please just take it easy and as I told you we will all be here when you are better and back here pumping out posts full time. Until then just take care of yourself and also hope your husband does now too with his knew surgery. I guess what they say is true, when it rains it pours! Seriously though huge hugs and thinking of you my friend :)

  2. That ARMY Strong state of mind… it's hard not being hooah all the time :)
I'm taking my veteran to the doc today with plenty of hesitation coming his way.
Please take it easy. The blog will be here, we will be here, we need you all better.
    I'll be thinking of your husband today too, you two take care. {{{HUGS}}}
    XOXO

    1. You have no idea! It is tough not being Army Strong. We were brought up with the mentality that if something goes wrong, just drink water and carry on. Water cures everything. Apparently it didn't in my case. :) Thanks for the hugs, I needed them! XOXOXO

  3. The past week, although I have been MIA in my blog, I have constantly been wondering about you Amanda. You are always in my thoughts and in my prayers.
Yeah, health should always come first. Take it easy and know that when you are all better, we will be here to welcome you back with a bang.
That pic of Madison and your hubby is too sweet. Reminds me of my little kid(Zay) and my big kid, my hubby that is.
Praying for your fast recovery. Hugs and kisses to you and Madison.xoxoxoxo

    1. Thank you Kristine. I did stop by your blog and saw you were MIA. I do need your prayers, not just for me but for hubby as well. I may recover a lot faster than he does. Hugs and kisses to you and Zay as well. XOXOXO

  4. Bless your family! I can only imagine how you are feeling right now. :( You will get there...but listen to the doctors orders, or it truly will take a LOT longer. Coming from a nurse and mommy, I get it girl! It is nearly impossible to sit still. Let others wait on you! xo Hope you feel better soon.

    1. Oh Kelly I know exactly what you're saying. It is so hard to do though. I just cannot stay in bed all day and do nothing. It is tough for me. I did it when I was pregnant with Madison for the last 3 months of my pregnancy and I almost went crazy. It is nice to have others wait on me but I like getting things done instantly and I'm the only one who can do that. :)

  5. I know the feeling! After I had my second son, (he was born emergency C section) it was SO hard to rest like they told me to! I had a 3 year old to take care of! But there were many days of setbacks because I didn't listen. :) Glad you are listening now, but what a crazy scary time! Hope you get better soon!

  7. Take care of yourself! Text me your address and your favorite kind of treat!
You still look so beautiful even on bed rest and in a hospital gown, and most people don't!
Des sends his love to everyone. He says, "Hi!" And.. "Cookie Doggy." (whatever THAT means, kid)

  9. It's so nice to hear from you and see you on Madison's blog...but I'm so sorry that these are the terms. You definitely are Army Strong! I'm pretty impressed with your determination to get better, although it's never a good idea to rush things along. Still, your attitude is the right one and I love it. Take it easy, work will always be there, and thank god your mother in law is there to help while both you and your husband are out of commission. I wish you both speedy recoveries. Take care of yourself gf! <3!

    1. Thank you so much! It is tough just sitting here not doing anything but I do know that I need to take it easy in order for me to get better. Rushing things was so not the right way to get it done and instead I ended up hurting myself more so now I'm taking it easy. Gotta learn the hard way I guess but learn I did! Thanks for stopping by and for the well wishes. We both need it, especially now.

  10. Mommy, you should always listen to the doctor after surgery...but don't worry, I've hurt myself before too by not listening to what they told me to do. It's hard for us mommies to just lay there and not do our daily routine that we're used to doing! Hope everyone gets better soon!

    1. Oh yes we always think that the doctor doesn't know what he's talking about. Well at least that's what I thought and I learned the hard way. Now I have to take it easy and I don't like it. Here's hoping that we both get better soon, me sooner than later. :)

  12. Oh wow that has to be tough for both of you to be on bed rest. I broke my foot in November and it is a miracle that it healed right with all the things I did and was not supposed to. It is hard with a 2 year old and lots of house work to do. I hope both you and your husband recover fast.

    1. Thank you Angela. It is tough for both of us being together on bed rest. I have my mother-in-law who helps out but of course I like doing things my way. With a toddler in the house who can make messes faster than you can clean, being on bed rest is so not the thing for me right now. Thank you for stopping by and your well wishes. They are really appreciated.

  13. Everyone has pretty much said it all in the comment section already but I still wanted to send my love your way. I know how hard it can be and I really hope you both get some good rest and feel much better. Looking forward to what's coming when you feel better (but I can wait! At least until you are REALLY better! :-) )

  15. Oh my goodness! You have really been through the ringer. I bet it is so hard to stay in bed and just rest, but now you know that you really do have to until you are better. I hate to hear about your husband as well. I hope his surgery went well yesterday! Sending well wishes and positive vibes your way for a speedy recovery for both you and your hubby. Take care! And thanks for checking in on my blog. I appreciate it!

    1. Oh Tammy, you have no idea! I have been through the ringer and back. Just when I thought that I was going to get better even sooner, hubby went and tore the tendons in his knee and now he's no longer there to take care of me. I now have to get up and help him as well making my recovery time even longer. Thanks for the positive vibes. They are so appreciated and for stopping by as well.
