Let There Be Light by Archbishop Desmond Tutu – Book Review

Disclaimer: I was given a free copy of this book for review. No other compensation was received. Though the book was free, opinions are 100% my very own.

I am a big fan of books. When I saw that there was a copy of a book that was illustrated by one of my favorite authors and written by a Nobel Peace Prize winner, I knew that I just had to have it. Let There be Light is written by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and illustrated by Nancy Tillman. Nancy Tillman as you may have noticed if you ever check my profile is listed among a few others as one of my favorite authors. She is mostly known for her books “On The Night You Were Born” and “Wherever You Are My Love Will Find You”, both of which are in my ever expanding book collection. Let There Be Light is a children’s book that beautifully illustrates the creation of earth and man. Simply told so that even the youngest of child would understand.

When I received my copy I was immediately drawn to the cover. It’s reminiscent of Nancy Tillman’s work and if you know her work you would recognize it instantly. Let There Be Light is the story of the worlds creation told in such a way that even the youngest of child can understand. The story follows the creation on each of the 7 days and each is beautifully illustrated. There are no rhymes that you would come to expect from a child’s book, instead it is very down to earth and very simply told. The illustrations only enhances the story and I was amazed. I kept saying “oooooh” which means “beautiful”.

Now this may be an issue with some parents but mommy didn’t think it was. On the seventh day it says that God created “people” and shows a photo of different races. While it doesn’t stick with the traditional God created Adam and Eve, in reality they were people. I love how he pointed out that God created us all. This is the perfect book for those who are interested in teaching your little one about the worlds’ creation. Now if you don’t believe that the world was created then this isn’t the book for you.

I certainly recommend this book for everyone. This is perfect for all ages big or small. Let There Be Light by Archbishop Desmond Tutu gets my TWO TINY THUMBS UP! It also available for purchase online at Amazon in both hardcover and Kindle edition.
