I’ve been meaning to do a write up for these books for a while and I’m finally getting around to it. Yay me!
As most of you know, at least those of you who have been reading my blog from the beginning. I love to read, well actually I love being read to. Same thing isn’t it? Mommy says no. ☺
Well mommy recently got me A Little Books Boxed Set featuring Little Pea, Little Hoot and Little Oink by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Jen Corace. These are all board books, very nice and sturdy with the most beautifully illustrated artwork and perfect for my little hands to hold. They teach the basic math concept of counting and also all have very unique endings.
Little hoot is a little owl who wants to go to bed like all the other kids but mama and papa says that he has to stay up late at night to play like all little owls do. He was not a happy owl because he really wanted to go to bed early and did not like staying up late. He had to stay up and play on the jungle gym, jump in leaves and ride his skateboard. What a silly owl.
Excerpt from Little Hoot:
Once, up on a branch, there was a fellow named Little Hoot. Little Hoot was a happy little owl. He liked going to school. He liked playing hide-n-seek with his forest friends.
Little Pea likes hanging out with his friends, rolling down hills but there is one thing that little pea doesn’t like. He doesn’t like dinner time because he has to eat candy. Little pea would much prefer to skip dinner and head straight to dessert where he gets to eat spinach. Mama Pea says that if he doesn’t eat his candy he wouldn’t get any dessert. Mama Pea sounds a lot like my own mama. “If you don’t eat your dinner Madison, you won’t get any dessert”.

This is the story of Little Pea, Mama Pea, and Papa Pea. Little Pea was a happy little guy. He liked to do a lot of things. He liked rolling down hills, for example, super fast.
Little Oink is a little pig who likes being clean but his dad tells him that in order for him to be a respectable pig he needs to learn how to make a mess. Little Oink does not like to make a mess but he has to in order to play his favorite games. he has to unmake his bed, put on a stained shirt, drag in some mud and throw his toys out of his bin. Once his room is a total pigsty he could then play his favorite game “house” where he gets to clean up.
Excerpt from Little Oink:
And now comes the story of Little Oink. Little Oink was a neat little pig. He liked a lot of things. He dug playing with his pig pals.
These are all nice stories and I enjoy when mama reads them to me. They can also all be purchased separately in a hardcover edition as well but works out a lot cheaper buying the boxed set.
I love this boxed set and I think your little will as well.
